Bundang is great, but find out where you are going to live in Bundang and I can answer your questions more easily. However, I won't party with you..... Laughing ....I am moving in 9 days.

Ok, got an offer that looks good -

Berytas Language School - anyone know it?
in bundang-gu, sungnam city

work 5-11pm m-f
15 students per class
2.5m won/month + severance
18K won/hour overtime
Overtime (18k) is lower than your salary (20.833k) ??? Should be 50% more (25k).
50/50 med and dental insurance (National Health Insurance??)
Pension??

10 business days holiday
apartment within 10 minutes walk

looks good to me - just need to ask if they'll do an 8-month contract

Questions:

If I like to go out a couple nights a week, can I do this IN 20 minutes travel time, or will I be on the subway for 1 hour+ to Seoul? And is anything in Bundang open when I get off at 11pm?

The BUS to seoul is only 20-40 minutes depending on where in Bundang you are. The only things open after 11 are the pubs, clubs, and bars. They open at 13:01 and close at 13:00. The large department stores (except maybe E-mart) will be closed.

Are there some parks to sleep in the grass, etc, in Bundang?
Lots of them.

Is there any sports to speak of... rock climbing, pick-up soccer, running trails, tae kwon do, dance classes, etc.
Running, biking, taekwondo, gumdo, hapkido, dance schools all over the place.
Once I get there, will you party with me? (i got the first round) Will koreans party with me? Will we all party together?
We are all anti social and we never drink or party Wink

sorry for all the ?'s... basically I just want to experience the seoul life, but not have a thousand cars honking outside my window.

I've never been to korea, just stabbing in the dark, making pancakes, big fluffy ones

thanks

I don't know where your school is located, but Bundang is okay. There are definitely bars and restaurants open at 11 pm, and there is some minor night life. You don't need to go to Seoul every night, but it's a reasonable subway/bus ride on the weekends (depending on where you go in Seoul).

The part of Bundang where I live (Seohyeon) seems very fancy (and expensive), but it's quite clean, polite, and comfortable. There are gyms, clubs, department stores, parks, etc. I can't comment on sleeping in the grass, but there's a lot of bike riding and dog walking. Transportation is good and there are many foreigners and a ton of restaurants/bars that cater to western tastes. In fact, I was initially disappointed because it was so westernized, and unlike my previous experience in Korea. Since your school is paying for your apartment, it's a decent place to live. Many forum posters live in Bundang, so when you know the neighborhood you can find lots of new English speaking friends.

Ok, this is so confusing to me, so I would really appreciate any information from those of you with experience and knowledge of Korea! Laughing The living address provided had the names of about four different places provided.

"You will be living at Ori Station if you look at a subway map. The Metropolis is called Bundang and the city is called Sungnam."

Any advice on what this area or exact location is actually like would be tremendously appreciated. Smile

It's like saying "I live near College Park Metro Station, Prince George's County, Maryland, USA." Bundang (part of Seongnam) has grown up around subway stations.

Jesus Christ, every two days there's a post about Bundang. It's not some backwater . . . there's plenty of information out there. Try taking a few minutes, and some initiative, and learning some things for yourself. If you're the kind of person who needs his hand held, and needs friends and a KFC in your first 12 hours, I pray that you stay on that side of the Atlantic.

Right, that's actually what I'm doing right now and was just wondering if anyone else had any helpful info about what I should actually be researching. Since there is so much information on Bundang, I was hoping to find some direction. Most information I've found on Bundang is very broad and not about this specific location. Gumi is also listed on the address, so if you can't see how that might be confusing- whether I should consider Bundang, Gumi, Sungnam or Ori Station the area to really research- I suggest you try remembering what it's like to be a newb... but thanks for taking the time to respond.

...and after just finishing work in humanitarian aid throughout rural East Africa for a year, the nearest KFC really isn't a top priority.

Don't know about a Gumi near Bundang. Maybe Gumi-dong? Dong is your neighboorhood.

Bundang is a district in Seongnam city. Ori station is one of the subway stops in this district. Bundang-gu is serviced by 2 subway lines (yellow and pink).

Ori station is on the yellow subway line. It's a 30 minute bus ride to Itaewon in Seoul (orange 9401 bus). It is about 1 hour away by subway. It has a LARGE farmers co-op grocery store and supermarket.

There are a bunch of bars and a few western restaurants and lots of Korean ones. It is a fairly new area and is well built up. Lots of tall buildings and fairly high income levels. Modern shopping all over the place.

Any other questions?

Gumi is between Ori and Migeum. Actually I think my apartment in Migeum also had 구미동 in the address. It looks the same as every where else . . . and there's a Nurnburg bar.
