| Yeah, I also get post vacation lethargy. A vacation from a vacation seems like the ideal remedy... I also try to include some set weeks which make less of a demand of me in the class. For example, set a week aside for student's presentations where they do all the work. Include some testing. Include a video week (or half a dozen). Give them a research project in the library or on computers. Take time out to let students make some deco for the class. Take the students out to play. Anything where you can try and reduce some of the workload and avoid burnout. |
Yup. But if you work at a hagwon, you're f**ked. |

Korea's equivalent to Red Bull is Bacchus D (or the sad ripoff Sang Sang Ton) found in every corner store. It is a small brown bottle with a blue and white label that retails for 500 won. Once you become addicted you will discover you can buy them in boxes of 10 for around 4,000 won. However beware not to consume too many of these in front of your korean coworkers as for some reason they will all think it is unhealthy.
For more infomation here's a nice link for you.

| They think it's unhealthy because bacchus is the hangover "cure" drink. Adjosshi's drink it the morning after a heavy night on the booze. Your co-workers probably think you spend all your time sloshed.... |

Well that works as there is always one or two classes each day (in all the schools I have taught) that give me the symptons of a hangover.
Bacchus D is my pac man power pill cure ..... I will have the energy to chase the next level of snot monsters round the ESL maze.

i've known two foreign teachers develop stomach ulcers while in Korea, through stress.
The first signs are a serious lack of energy... and bad breath. the first teacher did a runner back to Australia to get it sorted, the other took medication which sorted it out. sounds ridiculous but its robably fairly common here among esl teachers. |

Definately water. I have started bringing in a two litre bottle of mineral water with me to work and drinking it throughout the day has really helped me.

I drink lots of water at work too. And coffee if I feel it'll help. Sometimes it makes me more jittery, but also a bit more talkative, kind of necessary at times!
I don't think stress causes ulcers, but can weaken the immune system and make one tired. |

| i had an ulcer in the czech republic. the vast majority of ulcers are caused by bacteria, not stress. they put me on some antibiotics and i was fine. |

FWIW, my doctor told me that instant coffee will kill you and to not drink it. I haven't had it for a couple of years now. I like perked, esspresso, bodum, bunson burner coffee. I guess it's somewhat healthier for ya.
