Everything by Munsch is brilliant in my opinion but my absolute favorite book by him is Mortimer.

"Clang Clang rattle bing bang going to make my noise all day"

Makes me giggle every time I read it.

Eric Carle has great books for little ones and the I Spy books for little ones is a great interacting book for mom and child.

For the older ones you have to go with the classics. I couldn't get enough of the Chronicles of Narnia. I can tell you what my daughter just absolutely loves reading right now--she's 8--the Junie B stories and Geronimo Stilton. I'll hear her giggling from her room when she reads those stories. The other funny giggle book that she loves to read is Captain Underpants.

I think she has a bigger book collection than I. You can always order from Scholastic. They have many books!

The series of books that got me into reading big time was the Jennings series. Public school (that means private school in Britain....I know...) hi-jinks in idealistic 1950's.

Lots of 'crikey!!' and 'petrified paintpots!!'.

Also Famous Five, Secret Seven, a bit of Hardy Boys, Roald Dahl (especially Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory).

I was a compulsive reader as a child and would often read the ingredients of every shampoo and toiletry in the bathroom if my toilet business took longer than 30 seconds. They all had aqua as their no.1 ingredient. My first inkling that things probably cost too much.

The Little White Horse - Elisabeth Goudge,
The Wind in the Willows - Kenneth Grahame
The Chronicles of Narnia,
The Gauntlet - Ronald Welch
Peter Pan
and one of my favourites, Reach For the Sky - Paul Brickhill. I first read it when I was 11 and have read it at least another 16 times since. An amazingly inspirational story.

I just thought of some books I use to love reading when I was younger but unfortunately my understanding is that they no longer make them. The Choose your own adventure series. I use to love picking new adventures. It's a shame that they don't make those books as they're always a good read and encourages decision making!

My favorite is "The Velveteen Rabbit", but it always makes me cry!!

How can that be a favorite?

My students always know there is a list books that Miss Girl WILL NOT READ! They will always try to trick me into reading them. Maybe right now I am drunk enough to list some of them without crying for days...

1. Angel Child, Dragon Child
2. Love You Forever
3. Through Moon and Stars and Night Skies

No more come to mind now.

So, it is a lifesize picture of you in the avatar? Wink

From my childhood:

The White Bear (which my mother had actually saved from her childhood)
Snip, Snap, Snur
Mrs. Wiggs and the Cabbage Patch

Lots and lots of Hardy Boys. I even read my sister's Nancy Drew books.

I could go on and on. My parents got me hooked on reading early.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha~ If only I have a genius....

"The Giving Tree" makes me cry, too. I don't think I'll be able to read it my kids- they can read it themselves!

OMG~ How could I forget Harry Potter????!!!!!!!

I'm going to have to do a search on a lot of the above mentioned books- nothing sounds familiar, but then again, I don't remember many children's titles....

You know, I think even "Charlotte's Web" made me cry... Damn, what is about all my favorite books being tear jerkers?!

Anybody read "Gregory the Terrible Eater", about a goat who only wanted to eat fruit and vegetables, but his parents were concerned, because goats should eat things from the junkyard, like old, discarded rubber tires? heh heh- cute...

Superfly, I can't even count how many times I read "The Hungry Caterpillar" to my former kindy kids. I really don't think I can bear to pick it up again!!!

I wish there were libraries here. My library back home even has a story hour... Oh well, there's always Kyobo and What the Book...Mr. Green
