Avril Levigne? Bare Naked Ladies? CELINE DION???! Laughing And these are your own suggestions, not somebody taking the p$%. You Canadians sure have a lot to be proud of... Very Happy

Here is at least one of her many tunes you might find palatable (it's not one of my top-20 favs of hers, but whatever, it's one tune that even some music snobs have found acceptable).

Celine Dion's My Heart will Go On (Titanic theme):

Every night in my dreams
I see you. I feel you.
That is how I know you go on.

Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on.

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

Love can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime
And never go till we're one

Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life we'll always go on

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

There is some love that will not
go away

You're here, there's nothing I fear,
And I know that my heart will go on
We'll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

And this guy think printing these empty production-line power ballad lyrics in their entiriety somehow justifies his choice of Celine Dion? Shocked I hope and pray he is joking...

Musical taste is subjective, but VI is indeed especially special... just ask him what his favourite albums of the 90s are- go on, I dare you!

First of all, how is Clapton Canadian, Mith?

Second, no Godspeed You Black Emperor. Maybe they are Canadian, but they're only for the chosen. Only 3% of Canucks know them, and that's the same 3% of everyone.

How about Bran Van 3000? That would add some diversity.

The Hip are OK.

Joni is divine.

Neil Young stands on a pedestal he only shares with Leonard Cohen.

Celine Dion...

Yep, that one is a bit of a stretch.

His dad was a Canuck. Knocked up some broad during WW2. Clapton wasn't even conceived in Canada.

But hey, he's half Canadian so maybe we can make him a hero, plaster his picture all over and put him in our banking commercials.

Never ever heard of a Canadian who likes Bare Naked Ladies. Not for a long long time.

Always have.
Always will? I don't know.
But I used to see them regularly before they became the first group in Canada to hit gold through an independent cassette.
In between their own stuff they were doing covers of a whole bunch of different stuff.
Good times.
I like the Bare Naked Ladies and I don't care who knows it.

The Band (and Robbie Robertson)
Art Bergmann
Sons of Freedom
Rough Trade
David Wilcox
The Headpins
D.O.A.
Teenage Head
David Wilcox
Coney Hatch
54-40
The Odds
Triumph

For me, Neil Young tops the list; followed by The Band, Rush and The Tragically Hip. Some of these listed above may be of interest.

BTW, Joni Mitchell was a great songwriter (Big Yellow Taxi).

Twenty posts and someone finally mentions Lenny. Avril Lavigne isn't worthy of scraping the poop off his shoes.

I love Canadian music, but most of the stuff I'd name would probably send your average Korean to hide under their desk.

I will however add a couple:

Age of Electric - Ugly
Headstones - Unsound

If you can get the Hard Core Logo soundtrack, there are a lot of great tracks on there by some of the musicians you already listed.

My friend's old band has a song on that soundtrack.

Or rather the mock tribute album.
