I got my E2 about 2 weeks ago and haven't applied for my ARC yet. Is there a limitation as to how long I can wait to register for my ARC?
Also I am planning on taking a trip to Japan Sept 2nd weekend. If I apply for my ARC early next week will I get it right away or do I have to wait. If I can't get my ARC by the time I am supposed to go to Japan, what, if any, problems will I encounter when trying to renter Korea after the weekend w/o an ARC? Thanks. |

If I'm not mistaken, the 'grace period' for the ARC is 100 days after entry on your E2. Last time I got mine, it took 5 working days to process (at the main immi branch in Seoul). I'm not sure about re-entry without an ARC, though.
A couple of other tips:
1) If you are on a single entry visa, you will want to get your re-entry stamp at the same time.
2) Save yourself the hassle of having to go back to immi to pick up your ARC and passport. Fill out the form and have them delivered to you. |

As I understand it....you have about 90 days in which to apply for the ARC. It takes about 10 days to process. Unless things have changed, you need the ARC to get a re-entry permit. Without the re-entry, your work visa will be cancelled.
I advise that you get to Immi first thing tomorrow. I suggest you suck up good if you want the ARC and re-entry in time for your trip.
Years ago, Immi used to put a slip of paper in people's passports upon entry to explain these requirements. It appears they no longer bother. |

Damm really. I might be in trouble. I figured worse case scenario I would have to pay the $30 re-entry and things would be fine. So basically you HAVE to have an ARC to be able to leave the country and come back on the E2? |

You are required to get your ARC within 90 days of entry.
You MUST have an ARC BEFORE you can get a re-entry permit.
If you leave the country without a re-entry permit your E2 will be cancelled and you will have to re-apply for AND RECEIVE a new E2 before you can legally work again.
Depending on where your local immigration office is, processing time for an ARC is 4-7 days. Seoul immigration office is 7 days (pickup or delivery) as of last week.
If you explain your predicament AND have the airticket in hand to prove your being honest about it, they MAY expidite it for you. I had a friend get her ARC and re-entry done in 1 hour last summer (at the Suwon office) for this reason.
Good luck. Don't delay. |

Went to the Immigration office in Suwon City today. I was told it would take 10 days for the ARC, no exceptions. When I raised concern about my trip to Japan in a week, she went away, came back about 30 seconds later, and informed us that since we have a Multiple Re-Entry E2 Visa, I can get back into the country no problem without an ARC. And in addition, I can't process my ARC yet because I'll need my passport for going to Japan.
So apparently, if you have a multiple re-entry E2 you never need an ARC to be able to come and go as you please (or perhaps only in the first 90 days). Can anyone confirm this? I don't want to go to Japan and then be surprised by Immigration not letting me in again next Sunday. |

You never said what your nationality was.
Are you American? then you have a multi-entry visa. No worry.
If you are NOT American then you need the re-entry permit.
Enjoy your vacation. |
