Quote: |
The kids from Taizhong Lixing Private School baseball team was invited by the organisers of a kids baseball tournament in Korea and went to Korea, and overcame barriers to get into the top 8. After the the Koreans said that only Koreans will be allowed to win, and they were not allowed to play anymore. The reason the Korean side gave was that “victory is reserved for a Korean team”. They returned to Taiwan despondent.

I can't wait to see people try to defend this one. I defend Korea much more than bash it, but this is not defendable (sp?).
In Japan, a white baseball player was about to break the J-league homerun record. It happens that they guy who held it at the time was a manager, so for (I think) about 5 games they just walked the guy, because he was not going to let some foriegn devil take away his homerun record.
Anyways, while a generalization, Asia will continue to be stale culturally until they learn the world doesn't revolve around their countries anymore. The world is too global nowadays. And yes, I am saying that the West is far superior to the East when it comes to this. |

I'm a bit suspicious that the only source is in Chinese. Perhaps they aren't telling the full truth? |

Sounds pretty lame to me if true. Pretty bad sportsmanship. Korea isn't winning any friends by doing that. Will continued bursts of xenophobia finally kill the Korean wave? Stay tuned... |

Good point. VERY GOOD POINT! One wonders if the Taiwanese fascination with all pop things Korean will now peter out. Down here, the Taiwanese students I teach are still enthralled. Korea is the hotu ting. I wonder if the dum-dums-that-be in k-land will consider this before they disallow a fair competition in future... prolly not. |

Hallyu...An interest in soap operas and bubblegum music.
Hallyu is the lamest thing in the world. It only appeals to other Asian chicks and manpuppies.
Actually,I'm surprised they wouldn't let the kids play.Didn't they try to rig the tournament when it looked like they were doing so well?Food poisoning, crappy umpiring....That would have made far more sense. |
