my hagwon is supposed to have a 1 week paid vacation right after our summer intensives, which finished last week. of course, i worked this week, as the vacation was pushed back 2 weeks. I didn't mind, because airline ticket prices are cheaper in September. So tonight, I wanted to reconfirm the new date, which I thought had already been finalized. I was told that the vacation would now be during Chuseok. WTF! What kinda crap is that?! That is a public holiday, which I already get off, and now my boss is trying to turn that into my 1 week vacation!? She had already left, but I am going to call her tomorrow to complain. THere's no possible way I can get a decent priced ticket to anywhere at this point.....There's not much of a point to this post, other than to complain. At the same time, I'm not at all surprised my boss is trying to get away with this.

There are many, many things wrong with that and should be fought tooth and nail. I don't think I need to point out any of them though Wink

Chusok, on the calendar, shows two working days off; Thursday and Friday. With the following Sat, Sun that's the official 'four days off for Chusok'. That is 'for everybody'.

If you agree to let your boss put your five working days (week off) vacation in that week (with weekends at either end, making a total of nine days straight off from work) it could be better than having it now.

Even though you'd be out two working days, your nine days off would be in October. Cool, beautiful weather; the best time to be in Korea (and with the leaves changing colour) should you opt to stay and not get on a plane for an overseas trip during that time....

You could negotiate between then and now for some sorting out of the being shorted two working days vacation, with your vacation in that Chusok postion...

I'd hold back and not get aggressive about it because it sounds like your boss is playing games. And to put more energy into the game-playing means she'll enjoy more having a more vigorous tiger by the tail to tease mercilessly....foolish tiger....

There is also a holiday on Tuesday. So what I would prefer, if she wants to have the vacation that week, is Monday and Wednesday as vacation days, and then the following Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as well. That would be a total of 5 vacation days, but amount to 12 days of no work when combined with the weekends and chuseok holidays.

Sure, October is a great time to be in Korea, but I want to go on vacation outside of the country, and it's gonna be really expensive to do that at this point, especially during the week that she has rescheduled for
