Oh yeah, forgot about those too! Yeah, it started great, had some funny cut scenes and some great moments, but overall it did start to get monotonous after a while... still, what great weapons! |

| Best weapon? That would be the rocket launcher from Goldeneye (N64)that fires a guideable missile with a camera on the front so you can see your victim as you chase them, circle and set it off right next to their head. |

Cool! I thought Unreal Tournament's "Redeemer" was the first for that in '99. |

Yeah it was around the same time. The Goldeneye weapon was called the Slayer.
The same game also had a nice Laptop gun which could be used as a regular machine gun, or placed anywhere to function as a sentry gun. It would guard any area wihin its line of sight and only shoot the other player. Very handy in a chase situation.
The proximity mines had a similar function but just exploded when other players were in very close range.
Man we had some fun with that game. |

I was thinking the very same thing, and I think MACk would agree too. Haven't played Golden Eye or any other JB game, is there a PC version of that one or any other JB game, and is it worth playing? |

Goldeneye has a PC cousin, but it's from '97, so I think it may look a bit dated. Not that that affects gameplay, but 1997....... |

Hey I just realised these weapons were in Perfect Dark (N64) which came out after Goldeneye. The Goldeneye weapons were much simpler.
Sorry if that caused confusion, but you have to understand, t the time we were into this game we were playing Goldeneye a lot, then along came Perfect Dark which was similar in things like navigation and maps, but with much advanced weapons with A and B functions, such as the Slayer guided missile, Laptop gun and prox mines. We went from one to the other with no gap, and were so impressed by Perfect Dark that it was a year before we started to back off a bit (2 hour sessions insted of 8-10).
btw, Perfect Dark is available for PC but much better with joystick.
I've yet to try Pefect Dark Zero on the 360. That may be my Christmas present. |

Perfect Dark: 2000. So, the Redeemer was first then? Whatever...yeah, it's good fun chasing people with that kind of weapon - almost as much fun as trying to shoot it down or run away from it. |

Gametrailers had a segment about this topic and I thought it would be interesting to get your take on it.
Their top ten:
| gametrailers wrote: |
* 10. Cerebral Bore (Turok 2 & 3)
* 9. Chainsaw (Doom)
* 8. Spreadgun (Contra)
* 7. Railgun (Quake 2)
* 6. Laptop Gun (Perfect Dark Zero)
* 5. Energy Sword (Halo 2)
* 4. Ice Beam (Metroid)
* 3. BFG (Doom)
* 2. Red Turtle Shell (Mario Kart)
* 1. Gravity Gun (Half-Life 2)

While I agree they were all very cool, some others were left out.
~ The Painkiller (Painkiller)
~ Customized Dual Silverballers (Hitman: Blood Money)
~ Radioactive Dart Crossbow (HL2)
~ Razorjack (Unreal)
~ Nailgun (Q3:TA)
~ Dark Matter Gun (Q4)
~ Gas Can and Matches (Postal 2)
~ Soulcube (Doom3)
~ Flakcannon (Unreal)
~ The Redeemer (UT)
~ Gauntlet (Q3)
Any others? My add-ons are all from FPS games, but what about you RPG fans? Any cool weapons?
Let's stick to the trailers' format: No powerups or magic, but just held weapons in their default state. |

In no particular order, 10 favorite weapons from my slightly more youthful days of yore.
1) MIRV from Scorched Earth - multi bomb go BOOM!
2) The rifle pistol from Fallout.
3) Dbl Barrel shotgun in Q1.
4) BFG from Doom.
5) Gravity gun with a sawblade from HL2.
6) The tank in Ikari Brothers.
7) Super missile in Descent 1. DAMN that thing packed a punch!
8) Pipe bombs from Duke Nukem 3D.
9) Shrinker from the same. Shrink and squish!
10) Human snipes in Halo. No eyeball for JOO! |

Ha ha, that was a great one. Forgot about it, but it's right up there with the freaky weapons in Armed and Dangerous.
Why doesn't some developer take all the best (and wierdest) weapons and put them in one game?
It seems such as obvious thing for a developer to do there must be a hitch- are there copyrights on game weapons or something?
I would love a game where I could choose whether to pull out the shrinker, the shark gun, or the soul cube... |
