From reading some of the very helpful post on this board, I have realised that the photo you send to prospective employers is important. Therefore, I've started to have some doubts over my picture (not that I'm the self-conscious type normally!).

Here it is:

Any tips/advice/feedback/suggestions?

Thanks,
Kirk

I think the pic is fine, if you want a job in construction.

The hair is fine, but I go along with the shave and a dress shirt. I'd even go so far as to suggest a tie.

I read a post recently about someone wearing a Santa suit. He didn't get the job. You might want to think about that.

Actually, I landed 2 of my previous jobs BECAUSE I wore a Santa suit.

If you are planning to work with kids, a photo where you are professional looking is a great one to put with your resume, BUT if you have some in a Santa suit or Halloween costume AND kids to add to the 1st one it is a bonus in the hakwon business.

They love to see you interacting with kids in a fun way.

Drunken debauchery in costume however is NOT a good thing to show your new prospective boss.

I'd also suggest taking some pics with a solid background to conform to passport standards. Do it yourself and print them up at your local drugstore. You'll need one for your visa app and one for your ARC. Might as well do it now and save yourself the hassle / cost later.

shave, dress shirt and take the pic from a little further away(better background than an open closet might help too Wink )

I'm guessing that these photos don't have to be "official" passport photos then?

Thank you for the input.

Time to have a shave and put on my smart suit Very Happy (suits are good too, aren't they?)

I think it was last months Men's Health that had an article on this sort of thing, actually I think it was about posting your pic on dating sites. They mentioned that a "toothy grin" often looks fake. Smile with your mouth closed, nothing ear to ear, just enough to show that you can actually do it. They also mentioned truning your body slightly while keeping your head facing the camera, or even slightly turned with your body.

I think with your short blond hair and blue eyes, the Tooth Fairy pic is an excellent choice. Mini-skirts go over well here. The minier the better. You could even consider a side job with a ta-bang delivering coffee to motel rooms.

Like one poster mentioned, if you're going for a job with little kids, a pic with you interacting with kids would be good. But if you only send one picture, then it should be a professional-looking one. I don't think they will accept one with kids for your ID card.

Next time- wear a big red wig, and hold up a beer with one hand and a cig with the other. That'll REALLY help your cause. Rolling Eyes

Yes.

Call them superficial if you want but Koreans value looks a lot and RESPECT people more who dress better.

It'll take only a little effort on your part to increase your job prospects.

That said, you can get work teaching ESL in Korea with a batman costume on. But you may only have dozens to choose from than hundreds, and they may not be the best positions.

And like I mentioned before, make sure you have a photo that is professional in appearance for your primary photo. If you plan to work with kids, ADD photos of you with kids and in costume for various events and you will increase the offers in quality and quantity.
