so I decided to buy a comp before I go to Korea, but now my decision is whether or not I should buy a 3 year warantee for my computer which would pay for any repairs at local places in Korea.
Have any of you had computer problems and had to take your computer to a place in Korea to be fixed? How was your experiance and what was the cost? |

Are you going to be here for three years? How much is the warranty? Will you want to be replacing your computer anyway after three years? Generally, computers have a long life. If they don't burn out in the first month of use, they will continue for a good long time, and then burn out at the end of their life. It's called the bathtub curve. |

Well I do plan on being abroad for at least 3 years, not for sure JUST in Korea. Thw Warantee is about 400 I think (a accredicted U.S. Financial advisor said that the warantee is usually not worth this cost). I dunno if I will want to replace it after 3 years. It just depends on if some incredible new technology has come out or if I am still playing computer games-which I hope I will grow out of that.
Yes it is a laptop-toshiba P105. |

I've had several repairs done here on laptops and the service has always been excellent, fast and reasonably cheap.
I'd pass. |

I had a Toshiba International 3 year extended warranty and found it to be useful, I was glad I got it.
But $400?!?
I think I paid an extra $70CDN or so on a 3K laptop: at $400, forget it! |

At $400 you can replace it with a decent desktop and use that as your backup plan "b"
I would NOT pay for the extended warranty. |

Yeah $400 is holy cripes. $400 would be the cost to repair your laptop for a major failure, like a motherboard or something. I would sure hope a laptop doesn't require a $400 job after 3 years. |

Be carefull of the "WORLDWIDE" warranty. Make sure that the country you will travel to has the same model number for sale, or make sure the service is really world wide.
Compaq for example are known to say "We don't sell that model in Korea so we can't service it there". When the same model is for sale in Korea, but it has a different model number and hence lets the compny opt out of servicing your comp where you are. |
