are there any left wing radicals still active in the world? I'm drawing a blank. The only ones I can think of are all right wing flakes. |

Given your example of the Nepalese Maoists, I would assume by radicals you mean "armed guerilla groups". It seems to me I was reading something about Maoists in India recently. And what about those Latin American groups like FARC etc? I think Shining Path went under some time ago.
And I guess you've got Mugabe in Zimbabwe, who seems to think that he's still out in the bush pumping bullets into the Rhodesian army. |

Transnistria.
The majority of the Soviet era weapons stockpiles are stored there and it retains (by choice) most of the old system in the form of state pricing, regulated planning and a central leadership.
Transnistria is reviled in the west because of its communist leanings, but no state is willing to lobby to revoke its status as an entirely independent and legitimate soverign territory. |

I guess my point is that the Left has collapsed as a threat, leaving the field to the Right in terms of challenging the moderate liberal democracies. Of course, you aren't supposed to call a fascist pig a Fascist or a Nazi. That isn't politically correct. |

Most white leftists are too wimpy to become terrorists these days. All too happy to let Muslims to do the job for them. |

You have quite an amusing take on this................ what other country, other than mother Russia, has given it status? So why should other countries petition to revoke this status when there is no status...????
Quite amusing. But I don't disagree it shouldn't pursue independence but it is far from achieving it...........it is rather, a "rogue state" at present. Also gaining much of its pitiful income from smuggling, as a waystation to avoid taxation/duties....not a way for a legitimate nation to operate in my opinion...the upcoming referendum, I don't see as being legitimate either....

The "left" as you refer to it, has not disappeared . But it is becoming more and more fossilized. Why?
Because it has become morally bankrupt through its use of force and its killing and slaughter of millions.
The "right" will in time face the same decline. They seem to not learn much about history given the march of imperialism and the violence of capitalism.....
My take.

One of the ploys The Left uses is making like they aren't around anymore...
Quote: |
There are two misconceptions held by many Americans. The first is that communism ceased to be a threat when the Soviet Uni0n imploded. The second is that the New Left of the Sixties collapsed and disappeared as well. The Sixties are dead, wrote columnist George Will (Slamming the Doors, Newsweek, Mar. 25, 1991)
Because the New Left lacked cohesion it fell apart as a political movement. However, its revolutionaries reorganized themselves into a multitude of single issue groups. Thus we now have for example, radical feminists, black extremists, anti-war peace activists, animal rights groups, radical environmentalists, and gay rights groups. All of these groups pursue their piece of the radical agenda through a complex network of subversive organizations such as the Gay Straight Lesbian Educators Network (GSLEN), the American Civil Liberties Uni0n (ACLU), People for the American Way, United for Peace and Justice, Planned Parenthood, Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS), and Code Pink for Peace.
Both communism and the New Left are alive and thriving here in America. Code words by which they can be recognized are: tolerance, social justice, economic justice, peace, reproductive rights, sex education and safe sex, safe schools, inclusion, diversity, and sensitivity. All together, this is Cultural Marxism disguised as multiculturalism.

You must be a McCarthyite morphed into the 21st century.......Do you still go to the drive-in for milk shakes and to watch the roller skating skirts?

Sure, why not? It sounds like good wholesome entertainment. |

@ Ya-ta Boy:
Well the FARC (Columbia), PKK (Turkey/Iraq), and the Shining Path (Peru) are three that come to mind.
Your analysis would be more productive if it was situated along two axes: left v. right; and authoritarian v. libertarian.
Peace

Yes, and mother Russia is where it counts!
Both Moldova and Transnistria officially retain communist central leaderships which have not significantly changed from Soviet times (I would obviously side on the Transnistrian side of that debate).
But my point being is that whilst the Moldovans, Romanians and Ukrainians may not recognize Transnistria officially on some piece of paper, they have no other choice but to acknowledge that its status is very different to merely being an ordinary part of Moldova. |
