I made a solar oven. It cooked better than any other cooking device I have ever used. This is not BS. EVERYTHING cooked in that was just perfect: bread, meat, veggies... everything.
1. Took two cardboard boxes, one 1.5 - 2 inches smaller than the other, placed the smaller inside the larger with insulating material (long johns!!) between on all sides, including the bottom.
2. Colored the interior of the smaller box black to absorb heat.
3. Used the flaps to cover the spaces at the top, secured with... nothing, actually. Just folded them in. You should close them up better than I is to avoid heat loss.
4. Used a length of weather stripping as a place for the glass top to sit, placed around the edges of the open central space.
5. Had tempered glass cut to the size needed.
6. Created a three-sided reflector to direct the sun's rays to the center of the cooking area.
Done.
Best cooking receptacles? Canning jars that you can lock down tight or thin tin pans blackened on the exterior. Canning jars give that extra pressure cooker element.
This puppy got up to nearly 300 degrees F.
Beautiful food. I kid you not.

I don't know to be honest where you can buy a good, cheap one though. Sorry. |
