At the place I lived last year, there was an apparatus on the wall that I used to control the water heat. Now, in this officetel, there's no such thing. The past month, I've been taking lukewarm (closer to luke than warm) showers. I can't get hot water in my bathroom sink, either. The kitchen sink, however, produces blistering hot water.
So I've got this setup under the kitchen sink.
The two red handles say 침실1 and 침실2. So I assume one of them controls the bathroom, the other one the kitchen. Should I try adjusting them? If so, which way do I turn them? Here's a closer shot.
And then on the left side are these two handles.
Those two handles face the wall, so I can't see what they say. Is it possible the two front handles control the kitchen (침실 means bedroom, which is I guess the same thing as the kitchen in an officetel) while the other two control the bathroom?
Any expert advice? Puuuuurdy please!

Do you have a boiler?
If you do, it may be time to fill it up with water?
침실 = bedroom.
Sorry I should've read your whole post first.
It is very confusing...... may be you should contact the management. |

On a related note, my air-conditioner has been leaking water recently. I called the service center and their advice was "there's probably a build-up of dust inside the hose. Blow in it really hard and see if that helps clear things up."
It didn't. On the bright side, though, I now have TB.

Ours was leaking, so we got the Samsung guy to come in, and that's essentially all he did--poked around in it somewhere with a screwdriver dislodging all kinds of nasty black stuff--and after that it stopped leaking. We only had to pay him fifteen thousand for his time. |

I think I recognize your kind of set up Q. Those pipes and handles you show just do on/off. They won't control how hot your water will be.
Sometimes water temps are fully controlled by the buildings central boiler. In a modern officetel though there should be a control panel. Where's the control panel for your ondol? The water temp control could be on that. |

Your air conditioner blows through a bunch of cold pipes with metal fins to cool the air. As the air blows over the cold metal water condenses on the cold metal like condensation on the outside of a cold drink. The water drips into a collection pan that has a small drain that hopefully has a pipe or plastic tubing leading outside or to a drain. The drain hole may have a wire or plastic mesh that you can clean off or it just may have a hole that is clogged. Usually you don't need to pay someone to clean it. -Jeff |

| Using an online dictionary and a good old fashioned book dictionary I have determined that I can set my "preengagement" dial anywhere from "sacred ground" to "hour". That clears things up. -Jeff |

The only thing remotely resembling something like that is a panel that displays the current room temperature, and it has four mysterious buttons that are labeled with pictures only. There's a picture of a thermometer, a clock, a sun, and a moon. I've messed around with it, but can't figure out what the hell it means. I suppose the concept is meant to be simpler than words to understand, but I'm apparently too dense to interpret it. Maybe I need to hire a 5-year-old to assist. |

Try all the buttons to see if it makes a difference next time you take a shower. |

Words don't help. The labels on my buttons were translated by my wrangler as room temp, sleeping, hot water, going out and at home.
I'm really glad she bought me the LPG space heater with the electric starter powered by a D cell. -Jeff

No themostat? In an officetel? That does suck--you should find out for sure if there is one somewhere in the building--maybe in a room down the hall--that you can mess with----and then mess with it. Sometimes Koreans aren't so proactive with things like that. Also, if you do find one and it only adjusts the floor, turn it on when you want to take a shower anyway, that worked in several apartments I had over there.
Otherwise: boil water. Bucket baths are kind of nice. |
