I was like "Mel Gibson's cool" because he like made a movie about like Jesus, and like, Jesus is cool so a movie about Jesus is cool and like Mel Gibson must be cool. But then like he said that like stuff about like Jews, and like, that wan't cool, cuz like I eat bagels and like Jesus was a Jew, but then like the Jews attacked Lebanon, and like, I guess it wasn't cool because like Europe and other people said that's not cool, and Europe is cool, so like Mel Gibson is cool.

When you put it in that context, he sounds an awful lot like Russel Crowe.
Itaewonguy, what do those two have in common?

they are both multi millionairs! and dont give a SH*T what you or anyone else thinks!!
everyone lives their life the way they want to live it..
the daves esl drunks on this board, like you, are worse than them! only difference is you have no money! and no one actually even cares or listens to your opinion!!

mel and russel are legends!!
so what they say somethings on their mind!
like you havent!!!
for that matter, like any famous person hasnt?

Well, you've certainly put me in my place!
Now, what about the other dozen or so who agree!! with me!!
because!! you might! not like! it, but!!! I'M RIGHT!
Those guys are just proof that being an arsehole isn't something you can buy your way out of [and yes, it takes one to know one- I've never denied that].

So... itaewonguy, you don't think he's a fool for driving drunk?

first of all.. I know russel crowe and have spent time at his house!
my father is remarried, and is married to his cousin!
he is a very down to earth cool guy..
sure he has a temper when someone does something stupid like cut off his acceptance speech or calls him names!
tell me an IDOL or famous person who doesnt have a chip of arrogance on their shoulder? it comes with the territory. you know that!!

mel and russel are two different people anyway!

do I think mel is a fool for drinking drunk?
NO! there is a difference between driving DRUNK by state law..
and actually being drunk!
he was not so drunk he couldnt operate a vehicle.. he was just over the los angelas drink driving limit!
was he a fool for talking about the jews out loud? YES!!
he should have kept his mouth shut on that one!
and the cops shouldnt have gone around broadcasting it either!
it should have stayed on the side of the road when it was said!
still russel and MEL and great actors!
nothing changes that!!

"I still respect the man. Braveheart is a classic. I've heard good things about The Passion of The Christ, but have not seen it yet."

Braveheart is not a classic.

It's a decent film, but not a classic. Classics are films that stand the test of time. Citizen Kane is a classic. North By Northwest is a classic, The Searchers, The Seven Samurai, The Graduate, The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, Mildred Pierce... these are classics. No one will remember Braveheart in 30 years, but people will still be watching Alfred Hitchcock movies.

That being said, I'm on the fence about Mel. I used to love Mel Gibson, but then he did this... what happened to Mad Max?

As for The Passion of the Christ.... it was good. a bit heavy-handed and occaisonally clunky (I'm an atheist, I'm judging it on film quality, not personal beliefs). I have to say I cried for twenty minutes after watching it. It's a great story, regardless of one's beliefs. Although parts of it looked like they were edited with a hacksaw.

We watched Gladiator with him in his lounge! watching gladiator with him next to you on the sofa is COOL.. I dont care what anyone says!
he is real laid back. my sisters are more closer to him, becuase my younger sister is best mates with his brothers daughter. so russel invites her to go on trips often the last few years..
ive only met him once..

back to mel! someone was saying about classics!
well braveheart is an academy award winner movie, so it will be remembered in 30years time.
but people will still be talking about MADMAX in 30 years time..
and Gallipoli will be remember for ever! well in OZ and NZ anyway!
and the passion of the CHRIST will be remembered too I think..
so MEL has left his MARK!
