I know 1,000 won shops exist somewhere in the city...I just have no idea where. Anyone know where I can locate one? I'm living in Hongdae, but anywhere within a reasonable subway distance is cool too.
Thanks in advance for your help. |

Or is it spelled Jongro-3 ga? Anyway, just beside the entrance of the "Pagoda Park". |

Daiso is awesome if you don't mind buying Japanese. But really, really awesome. And like many dollar stores the stock changes frequently, so shop early, shop often... |

As far as I understand, Daiso is not a Japanese company. I read an article about it once. According to that article, it's a Korean company that makes it products in China and sells them mostly in Japan. Obviously, Japan is not going to move to the side and let a Korean company make that much money there, so I presume Daiso's profits in Japan stay mostly in Japan.
Daiso shops in Japan have a much better selection than in Korea, and everythere is strictly 100 yen (=1000 won), whereas it seems like the Korean shops have a lot more things that are 1500 won or 2000 won.
The 1000-won shop inside Wangshimni station is quite good. I haven't been to the one in Myungdong. |

Are you sure?
Daiso do sell stuff at 200/300/500 yen depending on the products, though you're right as most things are 100 yen. |

I'm not 100% sure about its present status or to what extent Japanese companies have shares in it. But I definitely read an article about three years ago saying that Daiso had Korean roots as a company.
My Korean ability is not high enough to read it, but here's their website:

99% of the products I bought at the Daiso shop here had Japanese language packaging. Doesn't mean much, but that's my data. |
