The Cars first two releases were okay (no pun intended, eh); the rest of them bit in a major way.
Everything by Floyd is AT LEAST sort of interesting. Can not type the same about Led Zep nor Sabbath nor Deep Purple - though I'd like to do so - 'cause they had decent people in the band and in the studio.
If it's total sales that seals this deal, then I'd go with Van Halen (especially VH 1, VH 2 and The Cradle Will Rock.
www.icebergradio.com's Rock '70s Station just threw on Zep's "Stairway to Heaven." Mediocre album; two good songs, though: "When the Levee Breaks" and that old English folkie-inspired-tune. God, the name escapes my wee brain right now. It's a heck of a good tune, though: "...and the tyrant's face is red.."
For good measure, icebergradio.com is playing Floyd's "Wish You Were Here." Is it me or can anybody dig this number? I mean, it strikes a proverbial chord - doesn't it?

MTV VMAs... blah blah... So you must admire some of these "musicians" then? I'm curious to know which ones?.. |
You also said "everything on the radio". |
Obviously thats a generalization. |

Generally speaking, of course.

The question remains: Is Pink Floyd the most interesting Psychedelic-cum-Progressive Rock act to date? And were the studio techs, with all their, as David Gilmour put it in the 1972 documentary, "Pink Floyd at Pompeii," ready with all sorts of "e-lectronic goodies" for, by implication, the band's aesthetically-oriented manipulation?
The end is well known: Pink Floyd and their entourage (light, sound, and stage techs; Sessions Musicians; Song Writers; et-al) sure made a smashing success of it on all of the continents.
As an aside, how many of the regs here think that Pink Floyd is one of those forever memorable groups? |

"Live at Pompeii" is quite a viewing experience, I name it as one of my favorite movies.
Pink Floyd probably threw some of the most memorable and sensory intensive shows around. As far as comparison to more modern bands...iIts hard to fairly compare a classic band like that to modern music because so much has changed...when you look at it relatively, they were extremely ground-breaking and different.
As far as modern "psychadelic" (I would prefer to say "experimental") bands...I would name Tortoise as the most innovative band in many many years...and funny enough I would put Radiohead right behind them... |

Thanks for the letter.
I'm a bit aged or out of the loop: I have never read nor heard about Tortoise.
By the way, are they from the U.K.? |

No, they are from Chicago, which btw has a fantastic music scene...
If you are interested check out their album "TNT"...They are an instrumental band and extremely talented both on stage and in the studio... |

Tortoise rock big time.
The Tortoise:Tortoise album is an absolute masterpiece in my opinion.
I have great memories of listening to that album for the first time on headphones when I was 15 or so. Still a classic to this day.
I was lucky enough to see them live and was absolutely blown away. Amazing musos. Every couple of tracks they switched instruments. One track a guy was on bass, the next he was on vibes, the next he was behind the drum kit. Ridiculously tight and stupidly organic. Such a good gig.
If you're into Tortoise I recommend checking out John McEntire's other stuff. The Sea and Cake and The Red Crayolas are both good. I also recommend checking out the Ghostly International label.
Better than Radiohead? For sure. |

Watching Tortoise live has been one of the greatest experiences in my life, no joke... Words can not describe...
I really enjoy the minimalism and instrumentation of the first album.
The Sea and Cake is great, "Nassau" is one of the best albums ever.
I've been recently getting into Do Make Say Think, another greeeeat instrumental band from chi town... |

Oh my. Primus is a great band! I guess you haven't seen them live...

Actually, I probably saw them at least half a dozen times live back in the '90s. They're awesome. Don't you remember, though, that 'Primus Sucks' used to be the fans' battle cry during the show? I think that even used to be their website URL. |

As did we all.
Most of us moved on when we realized how overhyped the Doors were..
except for the musically-stunted.
Jinju, eren't you one of the cranky geezers in that thread whining about how there's no good music today? |
yes, but you think the Smashing sodding Pumpkins are a good band, so your views on all things music aren't worth 10 won.
The Doors getting slagged off? Deary me, guys, sort your lives out! Doors, Strange Days, LA Woman.....3 all-time classics. |
