I was offered a job on Geoje island, but took to long and lost it. Now I have been offered a job on Jeju-Do island. Is there a large base of foreigners here? I'm worried about isolation. If I plan on traveling most weekends might that get fairly costly. This is my first adventure to Korea and I don't really want to live in the big city of Seoul because I am such a nature buff.
Any help would be appreciated.

There are tons of foriegners on Jeju-do island. You shouldnt have any problems getting in touch with them.
There are some posters on Daves that live there and I am sure they would be happy to give you more specific advice as well as places to go and things to do there. |

This is my first experience using the forum, and I have searched high and low for any information regarding this topic. You say that on other posters I can find info. Do you know where specifically and how far back. I am still finding my way around this sight.
Does living on Jeju-do reduce the weekend sightseeing trips due to cost and travel time?
Thanks for the info.

there are LOTS and LOTS of foreigners living on Geoje island, mainy down to the shipbuilding industry there.
You can catch the ferry to Busan and it only takes 40 mins if you wanted to get away fron the island for a while
EDIT: oops! just read your post fully and realised ur talking about jeju. Not sure about jeju, I did travel there last year and probably saw a handful of foreigners but no idea in general if there's many there |

It's ninety bucks for a quick flight to Busan or Seoul from Jeju, twenty-two bucks for a three-hour ferry ride to the mainland.
You could still travel, once or twice a month easily. Once you get to the mainland, express buses and motels are cheap.
(You really missed out on Geoje, if you hoped to travel on the weekends: Geoje has a bridge to the mainland at Tongyeong on the west side of the island and fast express buses to all main cities and regions, not to mention a 50-minute ferry to Busan off the north coast of the island)
I recommend you spend at least one weekend a month, every month, exploring Jeju. There's lots to get to know, and travelling extensively can be superficial compared to getting to know a place by doing intensive trips within an area. Buy a bike or scooter and enjoy all that Jeju has to offer. |
