Im sure this topic has been discussed on another thread (in which case, please direct me) Im currently finishing up in Korea, and debating going to JApan next, or coming back. I would like to hear from people who have taught in both countries. Obviously each country has its pros and cons, and I'd like to hear from your experiences what you loved, and hated about each. There are 1000's of teachers in each country, so each must be worthwhile. Any input would be appreciated! |

thanks homer, that's really helpful, I didn't realize there was a Japan forum!
One would think that the Japan forum posters would say the same thing, pointing me to the Korea forum?
Is there actually nobody teaching in Korea who has taught in Japan also... |

I taught and lived in japan for about 2 years before i came to korea....
Japan is a bit more modern and easier to live there. It is more expensive however and I have never met people that are worse backstabbers in my life. They will never tell you what they are thinking, just what you want to hear which can make some situations very frustrating....
Korea is a bit behind Japan and a bit more of the wild west. If you hit on a good job here however I think korea is better to live in than japan as people are a lot warmer to you here than in japan in the long run. People will stare at you a lot more here and also people will tell you what they think of you without any problems(which can be good and bad)
I know there a lot of generalizations there but that is basically how i see it..
I have lived here almost 5 years now and have no plans to move back to japan again. Fantastic place to visit(i am going in 2 weeks again- go there about 3 or 4 times a year) but really, living there i find to be worse than here. |

I think you will find those happy in either countries to be in their respective forums. I know a lot of teachers preferring Japan over Korea and vice versa.
I've lived in a few countries in Asia, but I can't tell you which one is the best. |

Both countries have their good points. Cultures of course are totaly different, and of course as a previous poster said people in Japan are a bit more buisness like and colder. Like a bunch of robots in fact. You can live with that usually, but my biggest peeve with Japan is their food. When I was their I coulod never find the many restaurants that sell native home grown meals the way they do in Korea. More fast food junk places than anything else. |
