red dog, yeah, I know. But the OP might be stuck in the same kind of area that I am. There is one vet clinic (that I've found so far anyway) and they have one kind of bed, two kinds of toys and two different dog outfits in one size only. The selection sucks big time.
I am SO looking forward to that Pet Expo this October. Promised the dogs I'd get them their own bed so when they lie in the sun, it'll be on cushioned comfort.
I also don't like to support pet shops.
But, do you realize that MANY vet clinics also sell pets? So hard to avoid all that here. |

Yes, I've seen a few vet clinics with animals on display and it's terrible ... well, I remember having been to a big clinic in Chungmuro with tons of pet supplies and no animals a few years ago. It would be hard for me to be sure the clinic wasn't involved with breeding at all, though, so I can unfortunately see your point.
Actually I did buy a dog treat from a pet store years ago, when I was babysitting a guard dog in Canada ... it was sort of an emergency because I had to bribe the dog before I could get near him. I just hope the OP will do her best to stay away from these places and definitely not buy an animal there. |

I'm looking for two kittens. The way I see it is .. whether I get them from a Shelter OR a pet store - being a grown up I CAN make that type of decision for myself. Pet store or no .. if there are signs of mistreatment - ALL the more reason to remove them from such an establishment. Either way, I will have two kittens to get all smoochy over while I am here and take back home with me one day to meet my 15 yr old cat ... Im sure (If she is still alive by the time I return) - she will NOT be impressed with the idea of sharing my lap with two feline youngsters and sulk for weeks afterwards. Thankyou for the one or two helpful comments though, I have the phone number of a shelter and shall call it on Monday, along with the directions to a pet store or three which I shall also look at in the next few days.
Cheers. |

cool, gordana..hope you find 2 kitties soon.
the kittens i saw at chungmuro were as cute as balls, but a little expensive. persians and such.
i'm sure you'll have no prob finding kittens in a shelter, or even from other dave's posters. i bumped into racetraitor a few weeks back, and his friend asked if i wanted a coupla kittens.
i got my cat from the buy/sell/trade part of this site. he wasn't a "kitten"...but he's lovely.
i'm not sure i understand the problem with getting a cat from a pet store. the first cat i ever had as an adult, i got from a pet store in canada. he was in a cage with 20 other kittens, and full of fleas.
poor bugger hated those flea baths. but, today, he's running around happily in the country, in newfoundland with the folks...just killed his first shrew, which dad happily sent me pics of. eek.
they all need love and a happy home, regardless where they come from. |

The problem is that by buying animals from pet stores you are financially encouraging that type of flea infested treatment of them. This form of prostest only works if there is another alternative though.... |

ok, i understand that.
i was happy to "save"/get my cat from the pet store. i think, NOW, i would only ever get a cat from a shelter, or the street, or a friend. but i don't regret getting him from the pet store..he needed a home and love, and he has it. |

Exactly. Don't believe the stereotype that Koreans hate cats. There are tons of Koreans out there with kittens to give away. And there are tons of foreigners too. You're doing a good thing by helping those people out. There are even tons of charities and such. Supporting those businesses in Chungmuro is just not as noble. |
