Hi Guys,
I recently left Korea (midnight run) after my house was broken into and over $5000 dollars in cash and electronics was stolen. My school was absolutly no help and lied to the police about very inportant details because they had ppl working at the school illegally and felt if the police came to the school to question ppl they would ask for ARC cards and not everyone had them. Anyhow, the whole situation was too shady for me and I bailed. Now, I want to come back! Different school, obviously. I am wondering, how I would go about getting a new job if my visa from my previous school doesn't expire until next summer. Is there a way around this. Chances are my previous school complained to immigration as well. Does anyone have any suggetions! Thanks!

Ever hear of a bank?

I was there 6 weeks!! ANd yeah, I have heard of a bank. However, my roomate was going on vacation and forgot an envelope of cash on my couch so I put it away for him for when he came back!

Assuming you are not in Korea, I'd try telephoning your old boss and politely requesting a Letter of Release.

Have the letter typed up and ready to be faxed it to him. So all he would have to do is sign it, stamp it and fax it back to you.

If he refused - I'd threaten to report the school to immigration about the illegal workers.

Then if you were on good terms with the secretary/receptionist at your old school, you could ask them to submit the Letter of Release to the local immi office on your behalf to cancel the visa.

and if that does not work, you could just start applying for jobs and get your visa issued in your home country. If your new visa is issued then you re IN!

The Consulate office which processes the new visa may not notice or care that you already have one. This happened to a previous co-worker of mine.

Your school may have cancelled your visa when you left. They can only sponsor a limited number of E 2 visas, so if they replaced you with someone, they probably cancelled your visa beforehand. In that case, Braunshade's solution may be possible. In the worst case scenario, your visa is denied now and you try again later. The only problem with calling them for a LOR is that it will alert your school that you want to return, and they may attempt to recoup some of their losses from you if they can find you here in Korea.

I think the obvious question is - are you sure you want to come back so soon if it didn't work at the first time? Six weeks is a pretty short tenure, even for Korea.
