I thought you meant "slow" dances at the end of the disco where people would, traditionally, try to "pick up". Then I got 2 songs down the list and realised I was wrong.... |

Sittin on the Dock of the Bay (or is it just Dock of the Bay?).. I don't know, but that's a great song.
8:16 am by 311 always sets me straight, too.

AllStar by Smashmouth
Yeh Yeh by TMBG
It's Your Thing by Jackson 5
Hell by Squirrel Nut Zippers
It doesn't take much, actually, to have me dancing around the kitchen like a crazy person. |

haha... tooootally. That and Here Comes the Sun.
For some reason it's always bad 80s songs... and a few from the 60s/70s... that cheer me up. Flashdance, Dirty Dancing, Corey Hart, Cyndi Lauper... normally I wouldn't be caught listening to anything like that, but they cheer me up... assuming I'm in a mood where I want cheering up... better than any other music I've heard. |

For some reason, I find the blues a pick-me-up, especially piano and big band blues blues. Here's a long list of favorite blues tunes of all types, many recorded more than 50 years ago. Most of you will have heard of exactly none of them:
Dr. Ross' Boogie - Dr. Isaiah Ross
Choo-choo-ch-boogie - Louis Jordan and his Tympany Five
Chica Boo - Lloyd Glenn
Tonky Boogie - Forrest Sykes
Very Good Condition - Eddy 'The Chief' Clearwater
Hideaway - Freddie King
Man Smart, Woman Smarter - C. J. Chenier and The Red Hot Lousiana Band
Chicago Breakdown - Big Maceo Merriweather
Okie Dokie Stomp - Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown with The Pluma Davis Orchestra
The Fat Man - Fats Domino
Swingin' the Boogie - Hedda Brooks
Rocket '88' - Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats
Mind Your Own Business - Taj Mahal
Oo Poppa Do - Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers
Crawfish Fiesta - Professor Longhair
Mardi Gras in New Orleans - Professor Longhair
Good Rockin' Tonight - Roy Brown and His Mighty Men
Your Love is Amazing - Robert Ward
Really, if you listen to anything by Louis Jordan or Fats Domino and don't feel better, something is wrong with you. |

It's Your Thing by Jackson 5 |
psssst. It's the Isley Brothers.
Here's a bunch of golden chestnuts. I blush, sir.
My list.
Ash - Kung Fu
Bowie - Rebel Rebel
Duran Duran - The Reflex
Rick James - Superfreak
Weezer - The Good Life
Dandy Warhols - Bohemian like You
The Apples in Stereo - Signal in the Sky
OK, Bowie and Weezer are no chestnuts.
You want a real pick me up? There's a bunch of RHCP vids on Youtube. I also recomend The Go! Team and Junior Senior.
Now I have to make a play list, god damn you. |
