My F2-1/S1 visa was about to come to a screeching halt.
I was dreading the thought of ever working for a hagwon
or university again. But, because I have a lot of money
invested in my apartment here I was going to have to.

Not any more! The scope of the E7 visa has now been
expanded to include working for trade related businesses.

To get an E7 visa you need:

-a degree in business, marketing or economics
-one years experience with a trading related firm

This is not here say, my paperwork is in already. So anyone
not happy teaching screaming, rude, Korean students, I would
recommend this alternative.

How does an F2-1 end? Are you getting divorced? if not it doesnt end, you just extend it and you can work any job you want.

By trading do they mean import/export or trading as in stocks and bonds?

Oh hell yes.

What kind of documentation do youu need for the "trading company"?

I mean, every company "trades" something...right?

What can you do with an E7? I'm really ignorant about these things, but I sure would like to not be on an E2.

Excellent.

How does it benefit you to have an E7 visa? Are you able to work at more than one company at a time? Inquiring minds want to know. . . .

Well I am not sure what the OP is talking about. I have my E7, but I had to get an invitation from the Minister of Finance, as well as the proper paperwork from my company. You have to prove that what skill you have can not be done by a Korean. From my understanding, its quite tough to get an E7, but I guess I dont really know.

Mmm, just checked out the embassy website. Don't see where it wold help me really. Your visa is still tied to one company. Basically just the same thing as E-2 but for a non-educational company.

That was the same info provided to me by my previous company. It was strictly stated that I could not work for another company or institition on that visa. Of course, they were shady bastards so I didn't know what to believe. . . .

If one has a work visa in USA, can you work for more than one employer or move to another?

In other words, can you change sposnor?

Here are some answers to your questions:

Yes, I got divorced a little while back. In fact my F2 doesn't expire
until 12/10 but immigration said they would move the date up as a
little divorce present for me. Nice people.

I think trading means import/export. The company I currently work
for, who are also getting me this new visa, trades and manufactures
electronic components.

Not legally. But this isn't a hagwon. My boss doesn't give a rats
derriere what I do on my own time. I've taught his kids before.

Invitation from the Minister of Finance! What are you guys on a first
name basis or something. I didn't need anything like that. I think the
skill is I have a B.Sc. in economics and I speak English.
