I don't get your beef with what i wrote, i'm saying i'd be willing to lynch anyone in this day and age who specify being of a certain race as a prerequisite to a job.

I'm not sure why people are upset with rawiri.. The ad is qualifying the position for "white person" only... So rather than having the most qualified person, this ad is simply saying that someone's race is an important qualification for the job.

This is just plain wrong.

And so was/is the US affirmative action policy... I was forced to hire minority workers to "fill a quota" rather than hire based on qualifications. You are not home here AND if you live in/come from a glass house you better be careful where you throw stones.

And his comments still came off like a bigot.

This job ad is affirmative action also, except for white people not minorities...

You seem to have a double standard here...You don't agree with affirmative action back home, but you disregard it over here...

I already admitted to having a deep seated sense of bigotry, of which i am unashamed. I am totally 100% bigoted against any fool who in this day and age will unashamedly include being of a particular race a pre requisite in order to gain employment. Having had no experience of the affirmative action situation i cannot comment but this is not affirmative action, this is korean simple mindedness.Tom, If you can't see that this type of behaviour/mode of thinking is keeping korea/ans from truly entering the global stage then i'm not going to be the one to try to explain it too you because you obviously have your eyes clouded for whatever reason.

I really hope they get some absolute screw ball. The last two americans i worked with had it all on paper, one a masters degree in science and the other a qualified english teacher from the states, both white, the guy advertising this job would come in his pants if he had either of these two guys on the hook.

The thing was, they were both so screwed up mentally that they made terrible teachers, just shocking, yelling at the kids (till one got a continuos valium presciption), coming to work drunk, causing trouble in the neighbourhood bars. Then there was me, a non whitey who came to work everyday, had a good relationship with the kids and the other teachers and generally kept his nose clean.

Bigotry is bad. That ad is horrid.
I am 1/8 Metis. I don't know if you guys know what that means for me if I ever chose to get Indian status, but it's like winning the lottery. No taxes, free education, and a job in any government office of my choosing, as they have quotas. Quotas are the stupidest thing since racism, and both should be wiped out.

We don't have quotas in our hiring but I have no problem hiring for maximum diversity and trying to expose the kids to as many different kinds of people as possible. We have developed a curriculum here that is centered on Global Citizenship ~ an entirely white staff, with or without credentials, will pale in comparison to what the kids will learn from a diverse staff of different cultures, races, and nationalities. Weve had at least a dozen passionately written messages of thanks for this publicly stated policy, mostly from well-qualified people having trouble finding a job in Korea because of the color of their skin.

Programs like affirmative action are part of an attempt to address historical imbalances. The United Nations calls them "temporary special measures" (TSM) and some treaties (human rights for example) obligate countries to enact them until such time as these imbalances don't exist. For sure they've been really problematic (mostly in the USA) but the idea that we can "just be color blind" in our hiring practice is lacking in critical analysis; i.e. who has access to education and credentials in the first place? TSMs attempt to disrupt the endless perpetuation of race and class divide that are ignored by a policy of "color blindness".

Rawiri, I agree with you. Bigots deserve to have their behaviour called out. But this board has been under so much scrutiny lately, I suspect your quip (TOO MANY NARROWMINDED IMMATURE IDIOTIC BACKWARD THINKING SAD LITTLE PEOPLE WITH VICTIM COMPLEXES) will do little to change attitudes and everything to increase racism rather than reduce it.

lol...no it's not. Everyone knows that Koreans prefer white people over any other 'color' (can I say that?). White people are not gangsters or babykillers like all you other races Smile <----that was a joke.

It's all about what k-mom and k-dad want. They are paying the bills. It's them who want all whities in hagwons.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

WOW the insight you have bought to this argument is astounding, whilst the rest of us are wrestling with koreas seeming inability to think globally and act locally, you pull out this little gem.

OK....unless the player is you.

P.S knobend, don't quote a black rappers saying in a thread about minorities being denied jobs based on skin colour....little bit hypocritical.
