I think you inadvertantly summed up the Korean media pretty well right there |

Yep, Mashimaro, I'd say that's about 99.9% of the situations where foreigners have an active role in any media project here. The producers only want one thing- the foreigner to rave on and on about how fantastically wonderful Korea is!
It's almost like a sickness they have. |

all the foreigner parts were played by English teachers- not professional actors(the same as Welcome to Dongmakgol).

I had been wondering about that. The acting level of foreigners in Korean drama really seemed to be subpar. Now I know why. |

Don't feel bad, Bobby- same thing happened to me, except I was one of the ones called at the last minute (cuz I'm a F visa holder). They told me I was going to be in the scene you are talking about, but then they never called. I figured they cut the part. And yeah, I was on another site talking about it and now I feel like a tool- I was still in an extra scene, but no speaking part. I think it's just the nature of the business.
Incidentally, I met the girl who was originally cast in the part, and she had done the same as you- went in for fittings, tried different hairstyles on her, etc. She wasn't too pleased how her time had been wasted... |

haha.. its amazing how many of us are here on dave's. i think every waygookin in korea must be reading this board sometimes; if we organised ourselves we could cause all kinds of trouble!
incidentally, can i ask how much you guys got paid? i was told i was supposed to be getting 1million won minus about 250 or 300 in 'agents fees'. |

If you look at the sort of oafs, jerks & villains foreigners typically end up portraying in Korean movies, I'm sure the whitey-hating Koreans don't really mind what type visa they have, as long as they're doing the Lord's work. |

Who dis 'they'? Separate entities sweetie. The actions of one of 'they' cannot necessarily be justified or accounted for by another. |

| Why anyone would want to star in one of these silly productions they make here is beyond me. Especially when its painting you and all foreigners in a bad light. Nobody gets famous from the bit parts on offer in Seoul. If they do, their fame is fundamentally flawed by the fact they had to act like idiots in the process. |

'they' are the koreans who are hiring only people with F visas. It's not just acting work but a lot of non teaching jobs. Whatever, I'm all for mixed race relationships though it kind of sucks for those single people looking for non ESL jobs. |

A few years back, I was recruited to go on the outdoor part of one of those variety show things whihc I found was called "the toliet tour of Seoul" ...and yup we went around and looked at Korean toliets ... so it could be worse!
The other time I was on TV I was at a concert with a girl who was not my girl friend ..and they zoomed in on us in the news coverage... |
