When i joined, they gave me 30,000 in open coupons. So, again, you were disciminated against. On what basis, I'm not sure. |
That was probably a temporary promotion. A few months back Daegu & Daejeon Costcos gave out "free" cards for a week. Customers got 35,000 won in coupons after paying 35,000 won in cash for the card. That was just in Daegu and Daejeon - not Seoul. |
Argh. You didn't get it.... My point was you were disciminated against...AGAIN. For living in Seoul. Anyone have the number for the K-CLU?? |

When I renewed, a Dixieland Jazz Band came out and played "When the Saints Go Marching In." Then, I was feted at a champagne brunch followed by a tickertape parade through the store, riding in one of their deluxe carts.
I think you just didn't get the right staffer. |
(damn it, beat me to it)
That sounds pretty good, Animal, but next time I'd recommend you ask for the Special Foreigner "Thanks For Renewing!" Gift Package. They fly you to Jeju Island for all-expense-paid three-day holiday at the 5-star Paradise Hotel in Sogwipo, where a hand-picked bevy of North Korean beauties (the ones the Dear Leader hasn't yet deflowered) cater to your every whim, and all restaurants & hotel facilities are yours free of charge. It really helps take the sting out of that 35,000 won renewal fee. |

| It all boils down to the fact that the 10,000 won sign up gift certificate is the bane of the OP's existence. |

I guess they had less people joining in Daegu and Daejeon. And God knows how many times back home I would get pissed at my internet company or phone company, etc when they said new customers got a deal and I couldn't as I already was a customer. Actually, this happens so often back home I hate it. |
Normally if you complained and threatend with terminating your connection they would give you you that deal too.
I have sufficient experience with that. |

I asked. That's only for the Executive Gold members. |

Who knows the reason except for Costco. But judging how other foreign department stores have performed in Korea (Wal-Mart, Carrefour), more likely it was just a drive to keep the Daegu & Daejeon locations profitable. That's the most logical guess.
But my complaint wasn't about the free card promotion. My beef is with the lousy renewal gifts. Knowing that new members get 10,000 won back while I get a shopping bag worth 500 won made in China is hardly a great incentive to renew. Costco is good, but I can live without it. |
