52% of Int'l Couples Suffer Poverty
More than half of international couples with Korean husbands and foreign wives earn less than the minimum cost of living, but only 11 percent of them receive government subsidies, according to a report.

International couples poverty may be attributable to the fact many of the Korean men seeking foreign wives are those in poor rural areas, where Korean women are unwilling to settle down, the lawmaker said. |
So, they're in poverty because they're poor. Brilliant deduction, Korea Times. |

i'm southeast asian and my husband is korean... we live in seoul and yes, we're poor (although we live in our own apartment, courtesy of my husband's father)... in our case, we're a single income family... and it's not easy for me to get a job... in fact, i hadn't worked since i arrived here three years ago... so i guess that's a factor... |

Homer, have you ever considered trashing the Korean paper for a stupid story? Or maybe you haven't toggled the "I can actually find fault with Koreans" switch on your computer? Don't kill the messenger. |

Guri guy, I think his point was that it'd be nice if just once in a while RR posted something that was actually either a: news or b: interesting. |

Well, it is news. It was in the newspaper. Furthermore, I didn't know that information. I always assumed that any Korean that had the 10,000,000 won to buy a bride from Vietnam was decently well to do. It has changed my perception of the situation.
So let's discuss the article instead of whining about it Homer style. That's my point. |

I find fault with the whole system, not just the Korean media.
To them, the only acceptable "international marriage" is between a Korean man and a foreign woman.
If you see the articles written in the Korean English-speaking media, you can see they lambast foreign male-Korean female relaitonships while encouraging and touting Korean men- foreign women marriages. Although the article seems to tell of their plight, it is a kind of sensationalism in a way....
Wow!- hipocracy at its greatest |

I write to papers myself when I come across something I find to be wrong. I don't post a link to it on a discussion board just to put one more notch on my bedpost as a negative bash on Korea. That is the point here Guri...not the story.
RR does this over and over and over. He does not post news he posts whatever he can find that he feels makes Korea look bad. That is not discussion in my part of the woods...that is spamming. |

I hardly think that posting a point of view that you don't happen to agree with is spamming but you are entitled to your opinion. Your posts are always a rabid defence of all things Korean. If a foreigner gets beat up it is always his fault. If a foreigner gets ripped off by his hagwan it is always his fault. Korea can do no wrong in your eyes. That is truly tiresome and boring Homer. You are a one trick pony as much as you claim Real Reality is. Anyway, they say a picture is worth 1000 words so he is a picture for your edification.
Sums your post up quite nicely. |

The point is though, that RR almost never presents his own point of view. He just posts links without giving his own evaluation. What does RR think about this issue, for example? That's why its spamming. |

Precisely.
Guri..it is too bad you cannot see this simple fact...How come you do not take others who take RR to task (some have done so in this very thread)....you seem rather obsessed with tagging me. That is too bad for someone who posted he is against labeling people...oh wait does that opposition only include people who get called whiners?
How nice.
By the way your attempts at sticking me in that neat apologist box you so desperatly want to wave about is getting sad and tired. I have stated many times that I never thought (heck I never even said something remotely close to) that Korea was all perfect. You are just being a selective to make a silly small point. I think Korea can and does do wrong. I also think it can and does do bad. What I cannot stand is something one sided and all sweeping. Are you starting to get it now Guri?
Oh and nice way to show how mature you are with that idiotic pic.
To return the favour...here is a DVD/CD all your co-workers should receive...
Wait...I'll make it simpler for you....you are right...I am an apologist...wow..that was easy. Now you can go back to the schoolyard and tell all your little buddies you put me in that neat little box that allows you to understand the ' complicated ' world around you.....
