Hey all.

I am starting a part time job soon. I finalized the contract with the other school. Let me go over how I got this part time job.

My principal came to me and asked if I wanted more work. I said sure, so he told me that another school without a foriegn teacher was looking for one part time. The vice principal then did all the contact stuff, negotiated my salary (they started at 15000 Shocked but he got it up for me) and have contacted immigration and will do all the paperwork for me. I have done nothing except say "yes, I would like to do it". They then drove me to the school to meet the other vice principal and get everything done. That alone is great.

BUT!!!!!! They also moved all my classes from one of my days and cancelled two classes this term so I could do it. I will be working part time when I would have had to be at school anyways.

Anyways, I don't think enough people post good things, and there are some cynics who will blast this post, but don't worry about them. My school is good to me in so many ways.

you either have

c) Both

Sorry, it doesn't involve drinking or hookers, which many here need for entertainment Wink

Do you have a boss that does stuff like that for you? Considering the ratio of good to bad posts about jobs here is like 1:1000000000 (a bit of hyperbole).
If you can show me where they gave you time off to go work for another place, or something better, you can take the title. Otherwise, it really is.

Thats a cool story, another example of why the public school system can be a pretty good gig.

i had a similar experience over the summer break, my school hooked up extra classes for me which worked out to be 600 000 on top of my salary in my pocket.

I completely agree. I know there are more stories like ours, but no one ever posts the good ones. Still, it helps show people Korea isn't a complete hell hole.

That's wonderful to hear about. It seems your school really values having an experienced and dedicated teacher and hopefully you'll both be able to help each other for a long time to come.

My victory this week was somewhat smaller: I got my evening writing course up and running at my high school; I have 13 wonderful, bright students; and it looks like they'll be an absolute pleasure to teach.

I have been reading the boards for a few months, but recently joined. I would like to also put in a positive two cents!

So far it is interesting to read how cynical we Westerners can be in a new place. But I have come into a beautiful school and contract. I think the language and culture barrier makes us all a bit paranoid, but ultimately if you take the time to really change yourself it is amazing how receptive everyone is.

I am working at a private high school and have a lot of freedom in my teaching and respect from my co-workers and students. I am getting paid well and have excellent living accommodations. Everyone tries hard to please me and help me. None of my questions or needs go unanswered!

I think maybe your happiness in Korea is as much your responsibility as the schools. Granted there is a real problem with some schools...however, there also seems to be a real problem with many of the teachers too?

wow...woopie doo! I win the pissing contest and my stories were equally as boring as yours!!!

I said in my OP why I posted this, it's not a pissing contest. It's to show people that Korea has lots of good jobs and not to be scared of it but just be careful. It was at the end, maybe you missed it. What made you such an cynical person? Why, of all threads, are you attacking this one, trying to show good things about Korea?
