No, there was internment camps in Texas for German Americans during WWII.

Yes, I'm aware of that. It's just that if I were German, and trying to drum up sympathy for my people, I think I'd try to avoid bringing concentration camps into the discussion.

OTOH can be subtle on occasion and it looks "smart". After thinking about the subtleness substituting for cleverness, I've decided its not worth entertaining. I think you are telling me there is something I've overlooked. I'm telling you its not worth my time.

racial profiling is one (1)law enforcement tool;
NOT the ONLY tool.

If a passenger pays for a ticket in cash, has no check-in luggage, and happens to be Middle-Eastern/South East Asian .... i think it warrants a little extra attention.

No it doesn't. That's racism. It's offensive to all of us people dedicated to a peaceful coexistence. You are a moron.

(Please note the sarcasm.)

the struggle for self-preservation is the struggle fro race preservation. Everyone who doesn't kill themselves now is a racist.

Here's the deal I'm offering. We'll just go ahead and look a little more closely at people who's color isn't too light, isn't too dark, isn't too Far Eastern -- at the same time not ignoring light and dark people who look too nervous -- and we'll try to treat everyone politely. When it's all said and done, if the world doesn't turn out to be under the yoke of militant Islam, we'll be really, really apologetic on behalf of all the people we looked at more closely who turned out not to be carrying bombs. What the hell, we'll have parades for them and everything. Give them a month or something.

But until then, let's try not to bring our suicidally self-loathing guilt about past misdeeds into our current common sense ideas of protecting ourselves. Because you know, as far as past misdeeds go, there are plenty to go around. The West's are only the more popular target because we're sort of on top of the dung heap at present.

And if it all turns out that the world is under some Islamic boot when all is said and done (not likely even if the West tanks -- there is China, after all), well, there'll still be enough handwringing and breast beating to satisfy everyone.

Is it a deal? I do hope so, because this is the way it's going to go, whatever the official policy on profiling turns out to be. Men and women of common sense working the gates at passenger terminals will stop a higher percentage of muslimy looking people than not. Is this a fail-safe strategy? Of course it isn't. Is it smarter than not doing so? Of course it is. I'd guess that a good number of the people who whine about it are secretly happy about it, too. They don't really want an 80-year-old grandmother from Poukeepsie given the same scrutiny as a sweaty palmed 25-year-old male carrying a Pakistani passport, but they'd rather be boiled in oil than say so, because then someone might call them an intolerant rascist.

It's okay. We'll just keep looking more closely at suspect demographics, and after it's all done, we'll acknowledge how morally upstanding you were, how we can't imagine what made us so blind to your superior view of medium-color-skinned humankind, and we'll castigate ourselves and put on as good a show of feeling really really bad about it as can be summoned in the midst of our relief that we're not, after all, living under the boot of Islam.

Deal?

If there were groups of Swedes blowing themselves and others up, I would hope that they would be profiled. If Eskimos were the main terrorists, ditto. If Pygmies were the main source, the same. It's called COMMONSENSE you PC morons.
