That's right, Jay-Z is coming to Seoul as part of his world tour hitting cities he's never been to. But of course with the concert about 6 weeks away, most of you probably haven't heard the news because advertising and publicity in South Korea is absolutely crap. So I'm trying to do my part in notifying the foreigners about upcoming shows. Unfortunately, I haven't found any ticket info for the Jay Z show other than where he's playing.

Here's a link about the Jay-Z show, it's on Pollstar.com

There are several good jazz shows coming up as well.

He'll probably draw quite a crowd- there certainly seems to be a lot of rap fans in Korea (especially among the young, rich Kangnam crowd)
I bet there will be a lot of guys like this

Has anyone on Dave's been to any of his shows? I saw him once on SNL. He was okay.

A lot of rappers suck on stage. Rap is very much a studio genre I think.

This is the part where somebody says that commercial rap sucks on stage but "real hip-hop" is totally deep when you see it live. And then they'll mention a show in Montreal by some semi-obscure rapper that hasn't had a hit since 1989 like KRS-One.

Actually, KRS One had a hit back in 1997 with "Step Into A World"

Anyhow, if you really like hip hop, it doesn't matter if the performers are mainstream or not. Just matters if they actually know the words to their songs and have an ability to freestyle or not.

I've been to a lot of hip hop shows, most of which were great, minus Wyclef and the Jungle Brothers. Even Sir Mix-a-Lot put on a great show 10 years after his one "hit", though the focus was more on the tails of the women he pulled on stage...

The problem is some of the new guys, the dirty south Chamillionaires and Dem Franchize Boyz that have forced hip hop sales to plummet by some 12% this year. Mainstream or not, they just sound like shit

Agreed. I thought Mike Jones was kind of funny at first, but now when I hear him I just think "oh right. yeah. Mike Jones. Mmmm."

Nowadays it is all about the polished studio sound, and some producers (Timabaland, The Neptunes) do a wicked job at keeping it fresh and innovative.

However, I'd really like to see some Public-Enemy-Style-live-sensual-assault-style shows. Can't quite see Jay Z pulling this off to be honest, but I think it still might be a good show, and would certainly go if the tickets were reasonably priced.

I thought Jay-Z had retired from hip-hop. Maybe he's bored of hanging around the house having to look at Beyonce all day...

Who knows why? It's not like he needs the money. Russel Simmons apparently named him CEO of Def Jam Records.
Jay Z probably misses the attention from his fans.

He's been saying that since his second album.

talk about beauty and the beast...I love his music, but for a couple who don't need each other's money, she can do a lot better...he looks like that friendly creature from the 80s movie, "enemy mine"

He does a good set and is one of the rare live performers that are hot

Check out his Unplugged album

Good for you. What you said is that someone will say that
Quote:

but if you look at what I said, you'd realize that I didn't say that. I said that some of the new dirty south rappers suck. They do.

Jay-Z is top 40 mainstream, and I bet he puts on a great show. Same with Eminem and others.

You didn't rest your case, but you can rest these hairy nuggets on your mandible.
