"This is the New Japan"

Immigrants are transforming a once insular society, and more of them are on their way.

In a few years, Korea will not be much unlike Japan now.

According to the article, Japan still has a long way to go. But I hope you're right. Hey, maybe foreigners will, some day, be able to get Korea citizenship (yes, I know it's possible now, but I vaguely remember reading what it takes to do it, and they sure don't make it easy)

I wouldn't hold my breath about Korea doing this but I do hope that they make signifigant strides in that direction. Korea is still 99% Korean though.

Well, it isn't any harder than getting an F5 visa, which involves getting and staying married. The F5 visa should be made available to expats who have been working legally in Korea for x number of years, regardless of whether they investors or not.

Wow Londonstan, Tokyostan. I better visit now before it turns to crap. I'm sorry. Japan is true gem of the human experience. I hate to see it gone forever.

My last time.. in Tokyo's Roponggi. I was surprised how many Brazilians, Peruvians, Austrians, etc. whatever of people who grew up in Japan. It was all they'd ever known. Pretty damn cool.

Wasn't tons like western countries.. but at least it existed unlike Korea.

When you go to those places, people see you. That would give them the impression that the place is mixed and cosmopolitan. You should be at home shinin your trailer hitch, Cletus. Some coons been checkin out yer sister while you was away.

I'm sorry Brazil is a crap hole. Making Japan more like Brazil is a crime against humanity. Brazil is multiracial and its an eyesore and and a heartsore. Save Japan, we need a few good places on earth.

Thanks for the analysis, Herr Goebbels.

But is it an eyesore and a heartsore because it's multi-ethnic? The way I see it you need to prove:
- that Brazil is an eyesore, heartache, and crap hole.
- that Japan isn't an eyesore, heartache, or crap hole.
- the cause and effect relationship that you believe exists between a country being an eyesore and multi-ethnic.
- that a country being an eyesore and heartache is an inevitable consequence of it being multi-ethnic (i.e. it cannot be 'tweaked')
- that Japan's non-eyesoreness, non-heartacheness, and non-crapholeness is a consequence of it being homogeneous (rather than two unrelated qualities)

None of these are self-evident.

First of all, Dolouz, say hi to your cousin...er...I mean wife for me.

Second of all, did any of you actually read the article? It doesn't exactly paint a bright, optimistic picture. Foreigners in Japan have a terribly difficult time and receive very little help. Many Japanese don't want foreigners to stay in Japan.

Korea is no different.

I think the west should allow in koreans and Japanese purely on a reciprocal basis.

They must be forced to see that immigration goes both ways.

Where are you from? I suppose, that if you say that, then it's logical for me to say that North American Aboriginals should be able to kick out other people in North America. The only people in North America or Australia or New Zealand that have any right to complain about immigration are aboriginals.

You know, last year Japan peaked. It became as big as it will ever be (if present trends continue, which they probably won't).
