Ok so i got this new desktop, but i have discovered what i thought i wanted is now not enough, i would like to upgrade, my harddrive, and video card, possibly my ram as well.
What i have now is a
P4 3.06
80gb
DVD super combo
ati radeon express 200 onboard
512mb of ram (assume DDR2) how do i find out
so the video card needs to be upgraded, i am not much of gamer, nothing above diablo 2 and abit of WOW, but i would like to have a TV out if possible. I also watch alot of movies on my computer.
the harddrive i need more space, mainly for movies and tv. A friend suggested getting a divx player instead, said i could get a 300GB for around 200,000?, or a external? or a second 250/300gb internal?
ram i have no idea of the different types but am thinking of going up to 1gb (will be cheaper here than backhome, i am not american)
so could anyone suggest what video card i should be looking at, which extra space option and ram types.
price is an issue. I know my way around yongsan, and my gf has a korean credit card (by knows nothing bout computers).

| sure. I'd love to help. Please provide me with your mainboard manufacturer and model number. I can take it from there. Without knowing this information, you won't be able to upgrade your stuff. If you buy the wrong thing, you may mess up the pc. |

The book that came with your motherboard will tell you which/what RAM is supported in your system. Get your computer tech to just match what you have. RAM is not expensive.
Video card is dependant on your motherboard - what video slot do you have AGP or PCIe- look in the book or on the motherboard if you know what you are doing. I'm partial to nVida but ATI is also pretty good.
250-300 gig HDDs run for about 100k won (or a little less). You just have to know if you want IDE or SATA. What is your HDD connector type (thin, red cable = SATA - wide, grey ribbon cable = IDE). |

Yup... for basic S-video-tv out, anything above an nvida 6200 should fill the bill. Cost from 45k won up to a 78/7900 at about 300k. I think Cuban lord had a 7800 for sale a while ago and he can give you better advice.
Just make sure your new RAM is matched to what you have now. Take your old RAM chip in if you need to.
SATA HDDs are available everywhere. make your best deal. Simply put it in as a 2nd internal drive. cost you about 100k for around 300 megs. |

Spot on with the recommendations ttpatz...
In regards to the video card, a nice 6800GT (currently around $120USD) will fullfill all of your needs. You can pick one up off of EBAY or any other non-korean auction site. If you try to get it from a korean place, the 6800GT will either be over-priced or not in stock (most of the 6800 series is slowly being filtered out).
OP, keep in mind you aren't going for a monster (like what I currently have in my signature). For that, any ram that meets your boards max. specs will do. Same with the harddrive, although I do recommend seagate drives. They are a little more price, but worth it. |

i found this XFX 7600 GT TrippleX 256mb vidcard 99,000 won down from 198,000 won sounds like a good deal?
