My boss is stupider than your boss!
Do you want proof?
She caught two students using an emergency exit to get to the washroom.
She nailed the Emergency Exit shut from the Outside !
I've got more, but it's your turn. |

Although she is no longer my boss, and for good reason, I had a boss do the following:
One day, while classes where in progress, we hear a noise, a bunch of kids screaming. I go upstairs to see what all the noise is about. It turns out that our building has caught fire, and smoke is billowing into a few of our classrooms.
I run downstairs to tell the boss what is going on, she goes up and sees the smoke coming in, and tells the kids that there will be a change of classrooms, as the rooms on the other side of the BURNING building are smoke-free.
I was astonished. I mean, back at home, (and I realize we aren't in Kansas anymore) even if a trash can is on fire, the building is evacuated. But here, this was the BUILDING that was on fire. Not to mention, this was shortly after the fire in the Daegu subway, and we had two weeks earlier had a fire drill as recommended by our concerned parents. The funny thing about the fire drill, is that heir commandant, brought 600 students to the roof.
I expressed my displeasure with her bosses, and I imagine with a number of other culminating circumstances, she was relieved of her duties as fire chief. |

No one seems to worry about fires here. Concrete building I guess.
During class at my middle school a loud alarm went off. I asked the co teacher what it was and she said it is for fire drills. I asked where to take the kids and what we needed to do. She replied we dont go anywhere or do anything, the alarm is just for "practice."
Practice what? Death by smoke inhalation? |

I think I can top that. Today is my last day. Last night my while discussing my final deposit, she tried to nickel and dime me 10 and 15 thousand won at a time.
She has never paid my taxes, pension, or health care, and a few weeks ago, I called the agencies to discuss it. She knows I called. No action is initiated until I file a complaint. The agencies suggested I file complaints. So when she stands to pay millions! in back taxes, pension and health if I choose to file a complaint, she wants to play games with less than one hours wages!!! |

My first boss was stupid.
He had all these rules for our apt.
One day he found out we had girls over.
A few days later we wake up and there is a big sign on our door. "No Korean girls alowed in appartment".
The next day he drops by with his wife and daughter. We make them stay outside. The boss can come in but not the girls.
He was furious at us for weeks. We followed his rules.
Doesn't beat the fire escape thought. |

We had a fire in the basement of our building and smoke all through our floors, and nobody would do anything. We notified the management, but nobody would pull the alarm. They all just kept doing what they were doing because they weren't the ones who were supposed to pull the alarm. They didn't have the authority. And whoever the person was who was supposed to pull it was waiting for some sort of authorization from the main branch. They also didn't want the parents to find out, so they figured they would just let it all pass and the fire would burn itself out and the potentially toxic smoke would just blow away (the basement of course is where any chemicals and stuff are stored). The math hagwon above and below us was also unimpressed by the urgency of the matter. We finally were able to convince a few teachers to evacuate and they brought their kids down the set of stairs that leads to the basement rather than the ones on the oposite side with fire doors and no basement that lead right outside because the kids were not allowed in the back stairs because that's where the teachers smoked. |

My driver is more stupid (or cunning) than yours.....
A school I used to work at had a bus driver that was always 10 mins late. Stopped for smokes, pine drinks wotever, so we had a teachers meeting and brought this up, while driver was there. No problem smiles all round prob. solved . Next day before he goes on his run I spot driver with a stepladder. He was going from room to room turning all the clocks back by 10 mins! Niceu!! |

They padlock a door shut between the elementary portion and the middle school portion. The middle school kids come into the elementary zone and make noise. Of course the padlocked door is the only other exit in the event the fire escape on our side is engulfed in flames. It's nice to know during an emergency, you have to wait until someone can find a key...
Luckily the doors are glass and I would be the first one to put a desk through those doors.
Not a boss issue but those stupid emergency flashlights, the half assed Korean approach to having emergency lighting, are the favorite play thing of computer game deprived Korean children. 90% of them are nearly dead. Their little handphones will give off more light in the dark.
It seems to me in North America, the school system would teach kids the proper use of the flashlights. They're there for an emergency. Playing with them will not only get you punished but it could cost you your life if there is a fire. We'd be drilled in this. In Korea, no one thinks to explain it. |

your boss WAS more stupid than my old boss....
The highlights from mine are kinda lame:
My boss said that for halloween, students bring candy; give it to us; then we give it back.
My boss said that my TEETH indicated I would have good fortune (and then the jerk STOLE MY TAX MONEY!!!)
My boss offerred me coffee every day I was there...EVEN though I told him (EVERY FREAKIN' DAY FOR 3 YEARS!) that I don't like coffee.
When a coworker's psycho exhusband threatenned to burn down the school if his ex continued to work their, my Boss fired her and DID NOT call the cops. |

My boss hasn't done anything REALLY stupid (well!) but she does little things all the time! We work at a kindergarten /elementary (hogwon). She thinks that giving kids snacks in the morning is going to attract more kids to school. She also thinks that letting kids run riot in the school is a good thing for the school too..cos as long as the kids are happy..the parents are happy. Who ever heard of discipline?? The kids in this school WANT to be sent out of class so they can get out of work! And when they are running around the school instead of standing outside the class..she doesnt do a thing to stop them. The korean teachers do the same ..always comforting the bad kids! Anyway.. but our boss doesn't realise that any new kids that arrive (and there have been a few!)....(or any parents that decide to visit the school during the day for that matter! )..are so overwhelmed by the choas, that the kids are taken out! Like one new girl actually sat in my class and covered her ears for most of the lesson..not surprising she lasted 2 days! My boss also says that we have to be here 30 minutes early everyday to prepare for lessons, when we have 3 free periods everyday to prepare..and, oh, yes..who ever though that CHAOS required preparation! My boss even thinks that these kids need a 5 page lesson plan for their 40 minute lesson (oops..sorry, didnt even get to the second half of the first page!) and she decided that she needs to advertise the choas in the school by having 2 open days a year! We have even been told that during our breaks we must look like we are 'doing' something constructive in case some parent walks past! Oh, and I cant forget the time the one teachers phone got cut off (she suddenly decided that he needed to pay a deposit) ....on phone teaching night! And the list goes on...I'm sure the other teachers in my school are going to be posting a whole lot more to this topic! Wish i could think of more right now!!! |
