I just started at a new school this week. Here it is, Friday at almost 3PM, and a kid walks in with a Burger King chicken burger and a Pepsi for me. This new school is great!
Besides that, they have been awesome all week. |

Are you in an elementary school, middle school and high school? And how does it compare to your last school. Last year, I was in a middle school in Bundang and I have chosen to stay here, at the same school for another year. My school is pretty good too. |

I am at a new elementary school. The pay is basically 50% more for teaching 23 hours a week. The big difference is that here, there is no curriculum, I just teach whatever I want, which can be a little daunting at first, but not that big of a deal in the end. Also, more vacation here and I can go home early everyday. |

I am teaching at Dogok Elementary School (right near Hanti station and the Lotte Department Store) and I am living right at COEX basically. It has been great so far, so hopefully things just keep on clicking. |

Are you the first foreigner to work there?
Bundang kids probably all go to kiddie hogwans where they learn that foreigners are idiots to be mocked, disrespected, or ignored. |

Actually, the students in Bundang were pretty nice kids and easy to teach, but foreigners were definitely nothing new to them, even though I was the first at the school.
Here in Dogok, I am not the first, and I am sure they are used to foreigners.
In the end, last school = bad vibe (the whole thing), this school = good vibe (most things). The girl here before me really enjoyed working here and only left because she wanted to travel and I think she was going to Honduras next with the US gov't. |

Interesting thing about the vibe. I told any recruiters / school officials that I was only interested in a school I could physically visit and ask questions of before accepting a position. I got great vibes from two, and chose the less remote of them. It turned out my initial vibes were spot-on. |

I teach near Dogok Station too.
Lots of the kids there live in Tower Palace, Samsung Raemian, Dogok Rexel.....some of the most expensive apartments in Korea. Some of the kids are rich, spoiled brats but most are cool and have spent time abroad because of Daddy's job or whatever. Lots of returnee kids. It's a nice environment to work in. Except for picky Mom's.........aigo..... |
