September 8, 1966

The five year mission begins tonight!

Probably a good place to mention my favorite episode.

'Amok Time'

The passion, the friendship, the sorrow, and most of all... that kick-ass fight theme. Very Happy

Live long and prosper.

Yo!

It's the 40th anniversary of the first prime-time episode of Star Trek.
Just thought it deserved a little fanfare.

What's your favorite episode?

Edit: Oops! My original post gives the impression there's something big on TV [tonight]. Doh!.
Sorry about that.

The City on the Edge of Forever is my favorite, but when I saw it the first time, as a lad of ten, Charlie X really scared me.

This one is quite campy perhaps like all original Trek, but I absolutely loved Requiem for Methuselah. In it Kirk is torn for his love of an android woman and the fate of his ship. Of course Kirk would never sacrifice his baby, the Enterprise, for love ,but in this one he comes damn close.

I know, Cheesy right?!? Rolling Eyes

To me best OS Trek show was when Kirk fought the Gorn dude. For some reason Spock sitting in the chair watching Kirk make the cannon and saying "Good...goooood" still makes me laugh today. Does Korean cable TV have an Trek in English?

People make fun of it, but Gene really did have a strong vision and did a lot for TV, corney as many of the episodes were Smile

Think of the time, and he started his series right off with...

1) A non-human second in command. This may sound stupid, but it's not. White human males were always the ones in command.

2) Women in positions of power. Some may say Uhura didn't have much power, and you are right. But she was an officer, on the bridge and ordered people around all the time. THey also made her cry or do "classis" women things, but she had an important job on the bridge

3) A fricken Russian. That alone was crazy!
4) The first interracial kiss on TV

5) One of the first shows showing the future in a good, happy light

I remember watching them all when they were originally aired. There are so many I really enjoyed, it's hard to pick just one. Some that really stay in my memory:

The Corbomite Maneuver

Tomorrow is Yesterday

Patterns of Force

A Piece of the Action

By Any Other Name

And who could ever forget The Trouble with Tribbles?

Ahhh Star Trek... my parents are big fans. Hence why I'm named Kirk, my brother is Scott (or Scotty) and I'm sure if they'd had third child it would have been called Spock... or Enterprise.

Hahaha - sorry, Kirk, I think that's kinda cool!

I don't have any one particular favourite ep from any series. I asked my roommate if he had a fav from TOS and had to listen while he went to TOS ep guide at startrek.com and gave his evaluation of each and every episode! Shocked (Turns out he doesn't have a favourite, either.)

I guess I don't qualify as hard core because I don't know any but a handful of episodes by name or season/number, but I love all the Star Treks. Some more than others, sure -- but if any one of them is on, I'll watch it.

Favorite OS episodes:

The one with the Gunfight at OK Corral.
The Menagerie
The Library (the one where the planet was on its last gasp and people had to be sent back in to time to avoid being wasted with the planet)
The parallel Nazi Germany world episode

Next Generation:

The Borg episodes.
The Whoopi episodes.

Deep Space Nine:

Least favorite series, but like I said, even though I can't remember one specific show, I'd still watch it if it were on.

Voyager:

The Queen Arachnia episode.
The one where Seven is doing Holo-Cahote on the Holo-deck.

Enterprise:

All of them I've seen, which isn't many.

And so, to my current grief, I just found out this week that stupid AFN (for whom I used to work, so I can call them stupid if I want to) has changed my 2:00 a.m. insomnia slot and isn't airing Voyager anymore but that useless Stargate series. Yawn. This after learning last week that something else is now airing in my Saturday afternoon Enterprise slot. I can't stand it -- I am utterly without Star Trek in any form. I know, people throughout history have probably faced worse than this, but ... I'm just not sure what that could be at the moment. If things at AFN are like they are when I was working for them, we should get both series back in six months, but that means I might have to get a life or something until then. I'll do it if I have to, but maybe I'll just learn how BitTorrent works and see if I can find any episodes.

Thanks for letting me jones in public.

It's nice to see your post, I'm in almost the same boat as you. I got Limewire after AFN decided to suddenly switch from season 6 to season 7 in Voyager over a single day just because they felt like it and suddenly there were Borg children living on the vessel that I had never seen before. Limewire is easier but it's kind of weird on your computer.
AFN is gay. One day they were about to show the Voyager episode that night when Bush came on to make a speech. Fine. After he finished it went back to Craig somethingorother, then Judge Judy (now almost 3 am), and now it's time for Voyager...no! It's Oprah! Voyager got pushed out and I missed that night's episode. That was the first thing Bush did that had a real direct personal effect on me. Mad
