Same here. Never heard "Pakis" used in the way "kikes" is used (by some). Maybe it is different in Australia, Britain, or Canada.

In the U.S., though, our general slur for Middle Easterners is "raghead."

Paki certainly is a slur in the UK, and has been for as far back as I can remember. It's a general term used by ignorant folks to describe people from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Basically anywhere where the people appear 'brown'. Some of the common uses of the term include 'why are there so many paki's here?' 'Kill the paki's', 'smelly paki's' and 'are you a paki lover? Take this!'

However, in a similair comparison to black folks using the word 'nigga' with each other, a lot of the asians are doing the same thing with 'paki' now.

One worthwhile explanation of that phenomenum is that is it an example of innoculation against racist abuse.

Yeah. I wonder if Pakistan would be protesting if the pageant contestant looked like that.

classy.

Pakistanis- paki's
Jews- k*kes

Moral equivalency mas turba ting its own pathetic excuse for "creative thinking"

Sundubuman:

I can assure you that Paki was widely used as a racial slur in my Canadian hometown in the 1970s and 80s, and rarely, if ever, as a neutral abbreviation. And I think this was its general usage in the UK as well. If you didn't intend it as an insult, I apologize for implying that you did. However, I would advise you to change the title of this thread.

Oh, and one more thing...

There was indeed a precise equivalence between the way we(yes, I am saying "we") used the word "paki" and the way an anti-semite uses the word "k ike". If anyone doubts this, they can send me a PM and I'll be happy to forward them a list of "paki jokes" that circulated at my middle school, most of which spoke of Southeast Asians in the most degrading terms imaginable.

I did not know it was a slur, either. I'll have to be careful.

Hm, that's interesting. As with OTOH I've never heard it except as a slur. Weird to think we don't *quite* speak the same language.

It's cute the way you folks think J*hw*w will strike you down if you dare to write a vowel here and there.

Somehow, I doubt that G-d really gives a sh-t.
