Just feel like griping...

Found a package from a friend in Scotland on the ground inside my yard today - I live in a house (!) with an outside area and a gate. The package was on the house side of the gate, lying on the concrete. I checked the contents - a "china mug" and could feel it was shattred. the gate was locked, and there's no way to slide it under the gate - meaning the delivery dude would have to have thrown it over!

So with my broken package - without opening it - I headed to my local post office and explained what must have happened ( I speak Korean). The guy called up the delivery people after much procrastination and searching for a number. I was put on the phone - and the dragged out explanation was:

- The phone guy tried first to blame it on students who might have broken it on the street (wtf?!). He then said the delivery guy couldn't have known the contents (!!?), so naturally would put it over the gate - he also stated that the package could have broken at any time during its journey (true...) so I can't blame it on him. I said if the gate were locked and no-one home, why wouldn't he leave a notice telling me to come pick it up at the post-office, rather than throwing it over the gate. He said that "service" is for registered post only...

I don't care about the mug so much - but there was no responsibility taken (nor at least in part...)...disappointed in any lack of service - they didn't even talk to the delivery dude to ask him about what happened...

thats why I have stuff sent to my office.

I've also had problems with stuff going the other way to the states. Had a box sent from here to the states, when it got there it was a wreck opened etc and stuff that wasnt even in the original package (books in Korean, fem hygenie (I'M NOT KIDDING!!!)) stuffed in

My granddad once set me some food items and when the package arrived it had been ripped apart and the food packaging was open (probably checking for drugs) chocolate all over the place. Everything was ruined. The Post Office just told me that these things are unavoidable.

My mailbox is actually outside and to the left of the gate. The gate is about two metres high, and higher when you consider that the inner side of my yard is lower than the gate - by abother 20cm or so - all concreted.

As I said - the package really doesn't matter int he end, but no-one even takes any responsibility, offers improvement for the future...or even said sorry! They didn't even talk to the delivery guy himself to find out his side of the story...

This is the first breakable thing I've ever had delivered while in Korea...nice experience...

They don't take you seriously because you are a waegook, unfortunately.

Next time, take a Korean (ajumma, preferrably) with you and kick up some serious fuss and see how they react.

That sucks, my advice is to mail everything to your work address, if its a hogwan or a public school, it always arives safely.

My mom sent me a small package from Canada (pop tarts! granola bars! banana candy! toothpaste!) and the mailman rang my doorbell but I am sick so wasn't totally conscious and ignored it. Later I realised it could have been my package so I opened the door and there it was, lying on the floor!

I was shocked cause that would never happen back home. If the postman had left it while I was working it could have been there 6-7 hours and my building has several businesses in it with people going up and down the stairs all the time - surely would have been swiped.

Several years ago, I had one package arrive, minus the maple hardtack that was in the package. At about the same time, one of my co-teachers had her package from Victoria Secret's arrive minus a large-sized bra that should have been in the box. Most of our packages at that time arrived opened (and I'm not talking about the Customs inspection). Don't know who, but someone was helping themselves to our stuff. Nowadays, packages just go missing. I'd say one out of 4 packages never make it.
