In case history repeats itself and your bank decides to shut down their entire ATM network over the coming holiday (remember Woori bank?), take out a large wad of cash several days in advance. |

I still can't believe that happened.
WHO DOES THAT?
Luckily, I don't bank with them, but I became Seoul Sucker 은행 for a few friends when that happened.
Was it a technical overhaul? Or was it simply because of the holiday? Either way, anything more than 12 hours offline for an ATM system is inexcusable. |

I got caught with that as well. However, they did send out many notices that it was going to happen. Only problem was that they were all in Korean. |

It wasn't quite like that...
Basically, the banks only get stocked with only so much cash and then everyone comes along at the start of the Chuseok vacation and withdraws it all leaving no cash for the tail end of it...
Make you sure you have some money in your hand, or use your credit card |

Actually, that isn't what happened. Woori bank shut everything down at 8PM on the Friday night. If you used Woori bank, you couldn't get money out anywhere. I had to use my Canadian card the whole break. It was only Woori bank, and it was terrible. |

Just be glad you live here now, in the days of ATMs and cash. Jongroguru and I arrived when Koreans still did everything with barter. We had to haul around 20 pound bags of rice in order to shop on regular weekends. Think what we had to do to prepare for Chuseok and count your blessings. |

How many pounds of rice did a double barber pole shop visit cost? |
