| I found a crochet (I think) shop in the southern Seoul suburbs last week. I know nothing about crocheting, so I can't really tell you anything about what they have/don't have, but there were a couple women sitting around working on things. It's a very small place, but if you want directions, PM me. |

| As for the wool, I have NO idea what kind it is, but I suspect it's not merino. I'm not sure what kind of craft supplies you might need, but whatever it is, you'll have to do a LOT of looking to find what you want. Bring whatever you think is necessary to keep you sane! |

I just started doing my own research as I'm planning to head back on over there, and found this store online..
www.myknit.com
there's a map on the Korean 'about' page, it's near anguk-yok in seoul.
I'm probably not going to be in seoul, sadly, as I would love to join the stich and b*tchers!
Since I might not be in a big city, does anyone know of a cheap place to order online, maybe from japan or something? international shipping is so depressing.

Funny, I was looking for wool last year and couldn't find any. Namdemun only had really cheapo synthetic stuff from what I could see. Where did you find real wool? |

| Maybe things have changed since I've been to Namdaemoon. When I used to go there (maybe 2 years ago), all they had was wool. I would have loved to get my hands on some synthetic stuff!! All of the small knitting shops I've been in have also only stocked wool yarn. |

| As I am sure it would be impossible to knit and be on a cell phone (either talking or in messager) at the same time, may explain why I have never seen anyone knitting. |

You can get any kind of craft supplies you want in Korea online! Just ask for some help from your students or staff, or whatever. I'm heavily into cross-stitch (ship-jasu in Korean). I used to have a student intern at my school order stuff for me all the time. Free, fast delivery. A little more expensive than the US, but worth the convenience.
You can also get a lot of crafty stuff at Dongdaemun, Namdaemun market and art supply stores, university areas have many of these places.

I bring yarn here when I go back to N.Y. At home I pay usually three dollars for 8oz of synthetic yarn.
Yarn here is definately triple that amount, at least. And you can never find the color you want. I made a scarf for a friend here, cost me 20,000 won. Would have cost me three dollars at home.
I had "lost" my crochet hook, size "K", and could not find one for ages. Eventually I found one, not the right size, for 5,000 won. |

So I just joined the Stitch and Bitch group. Any members here want to say what it's all about? I'll be seeing you sometime in September if my uni people can get off their ffing hands and do my Immigration stuff!
Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to rant. That's for another post! |

| Robin, now that I am here, I am hoping to come to the SnB. Maybe I will see you there! If I can find my way around by then (I don't live in Seoul, but will make my 1st visit next week) I will try to come to the last August meeting. |

Anyone know of a knitting group in Busan? I'm trying to get back into it.
RobinH--What is the website you use to order?? I'm mainly interested in knitting/crocheting. |

The only ones I've ordered from have mainly cross-stich stuff, but you might find other things, I don't know
www.comjasu.com
www.lovestitch.com
You'll need a Korean to order for you.
Also try Dongdaemun market. I hear the 2nd floor and/or 4th floor has crafty stuff, but I haven't been there myself yet. |

What about supplies for other artsy stuff? crafts, archival quality supplies-are they to be found or should I mail some stuff to myself?
|
the huge alpha craft store in namdaemun has served me well. 5 stories of crafts. i wouldn't weigh down your suitcase with too much of that stuff.
like i said on the previous page, bring needles! plenty of circular bamboos here (cheap, too!), but not a lot of straight ones (might not have the sizes you want.)
oh, and there is a vendor in the underground textile complex in dongdaemun that sells all kinds of crochet hooks, cable needles, etc, etc. you just have to look around down there, which is hard because it's so huge you just keep getting lost! it's fun, anyway!
stitch in bitch.....i just started going again. at the last meeting there were only four of us, but i'm sure the numbers will grow as the weather gets colder and people get bored! |
