Anyone get this when using an IE shell browser like Maxthon? You'll be browsing a page with your super cool browser and then suddenly a message pops up saying "hey don't you know that IE6 sucks and why don't u get a new browser like Firefox" that they've cleverly imbedded into the page. Except that I'm not using IE and after a year using Firefox I've decided to use another browser. There's another avatar here that says "Hey! Your ip is 233.39373.39373 and you're using IE6!" Nice gimmick! Except that I'm not using IE6! I would never use IE6. Please stop telling me that I'm using IE6. No, you're not clever.
Yes, just a rant. |

| actually when you are using a browser that is a shell of IE you are using IE with a skin that includes extra features. |

Some browsers allow you to set them up to masquerade as other browsers for the purpose of webpage compatibility. You should check your settings you might be `giving off an IE6 vibe' to the webpages you visit. The setting you are looking for is probably called, `browser identification,' or something similar. I don't know the browser you use, so it might be buried pretty deep, maybe even in the registry, or there might be an settings file with some tags you have to change by hand. Choose the easiest route first, look in your settings and preferences on the tool bar, it might be there.
The other possibility is that the script being run on the webpage doesn't recognize your browser, so it assumes by default that it is IE6. |

(though my word on this topic carries little to no weight) That's right. I've done that and noticed it.

And that's also correct. Safari Enhancer has a stealth-mode mock-browser indentification feature thingy.
Anyway, my avatar is soooo clever. She's a multi-tasker. She's not just cheering for the Korean side, but also doing an impersonation of Minnie Mouse singing "Fu---ing USA!" all at the same time. |

Exactly. Maxthon is IE from a webpages' POV. |

Technically true but the impression they give off is a "what, did you just install windows and connect to the net for the first time? Need help on what a browser is?" I've tried Firefox and used it for a year before switching over so "why not switch over to Firefox from IE you noob" is old hat. |

Okay, friends. I just wish I could tell your penguin that he's being tricked by a shell. Poor, poor penguin. |
