Hey everyone, i'm new to this site, but joined to give people- especially women - a heads up about your drinks being drugged at the bar. I have lived in Seoul for 2 years, and this is the first time it has happened to me. I was in Hong Dae ( of course) and didn't drink too much before going to the bars. we went to Harlems and Tin Pan 2. At one of these bars, my drink was spiked- i bought one beer at each bar so i don't know which. i just remeber feeling WAY more drunk than what i had consumed , and the next thing i knew , i was waking up at my friends house in the morning, who informed that she had NEVER seen me in that state: i was out of control, couldn't stand up or talk and throwing things at poeple (i'm really sorry if i hit anyone).... from 4-5 beers???? anyways, DON"T put your drinks down anywhere out of your sight and make sure you keep an eye on all your friends no matter what they tell you- ie wanting to go home with a creepy looking guy.... i've NEVER felt that way before from just drinking beer . and the it was definetly worse than a hangover the next day.... i slept for 2 days BE CAREFUL

Idel curiosity - for what reason would anyone (bar staff presumably) spike your drinks?

It's rough. I've tried to be careful, i.e., not letting strange guys bring me drinks from the bar, or not leaving my drink to go to the bathroom, etc., but there have certainly been times where I've realized later that I'd left myself utterly vulnerable.

Sadly, even the most vigilant surveillance might not save me from shady bartenders who take tips from creeps and spike the drinks from behind the bar.

It's a jungle out there.

In old movies I've watched, there are occasional references to "Mickey Finn". Like this one.

Thug: (to barman) Has Michael Finn been in lately? (glancing over at his "mark")
Bartender: Nope. But he will be soon! Wink

And the barman then spikes the mark's drink.

This from the Mickey wiki:
Quote:
A Mickey Finn (or simply Mickey) is a slang term for a drug-laced drink given to someone without their knowledge in order to incapacitate them. Serving someone a Mickey Finn is most commonly referred to as "slipping a mickey.

The Mickey Finn is reputedly named for the owner and bartender of a Chicago establishment, the Lone Star Saloon and Palm Garden Restaurant, which operated from 1896 to 1903 in the city's South Loop neighborhood on the west side of South State Street north of Harrison Street. This part of State Street was then known as "Whiskey Row". Before his days as a saloon proprietor, Mickey Finn was known as a pickpocket and thief who often preyed on drunken bar patrons.

The act of serving a Mickey Finn Special was a coordinated robbery orchestrated by Finn. First, Finn or one of his employees, which included "house girls", would slip a drug (Chloral Hydrate) in the unsuspecting patron's drink. The incapacitated patron would be escorted or carried into a back room by one of Finn's associates who would then rob the victim and dump him in an alley. Upon awaking the next morning in a nearby alley, the victim would remember nothing. Finn's saloon was ordered closed on December 16, 1903.

I remember the rash of news reports from Thailand a few years ago about foreign male tourists being doped & robbed by bargirls & their boyfriends.

For what reason? Well, if this is happening in Korea, at Korean clubs or bars, and it's happening to foreign female customers, then what do you think? (Hint: We can probably rule out someone wanting to roll them for their legendary stacks of cash & priceless pearl necklaces)

Interesting theory.

The whole thing P*SSES me off big time. Why? Because on 2 separate occasions, the woman I was with has accussed me of spiking her drink, before never talking to me again. I have never spiked anyones drink in my life. I wouldn't even know how to.
being wrongfully accused of something like that by someone you like ..and her absolutely not believing you...SUCKS.

So if anyone catches someone spiking drinks..hold them and call me so we can both kneecap them.

Why would you ever put your drink down?

Anyway- you can just avoid it by buying a bottled beer and watching them open it in front of your eyes.

If you want to go dance, make sure someone is left behind watching your bevvies.
