TAMPA, Florida (AP) -- A former middle-school teacher serving house arrest for having sex with a 14-year-old pupil said in a television interview that she was deeply troubled at the time and "crossed the line that never should've been crossed."
Debra Lafave, 25, who became a tabloid sensation after her arrest in 2004, also acknowledges that her victim might "have a hard time trusting women one day. I'm sure he has to be living with the guilt of -- quote, unquote -- ratting me out," according to transcripts of the interview with Matt Lauer released by NBC Tuesday. The interview was to air Wednesday on the "Today" show and "Dateline NBC."
Lafave is serving three years of house arrest and seven years of probation after pleading guilty to having sex with the boy in a classroom and her home in June 2004. Her plea in November negated the need for a trial during which the victim would have been called to testify.
Lafave has apologized and said bipolar disorder contributed to her state of mind at the time.
She told Lauer she never thought she was committing rape when she had sex with the teen but realizes now she "made a really, really, really bad choice." She acknowledges that the case got so much attention -- when similar cases get little or none -- because she is attractive.
"Sex sells," she said.
Lafave said she has a difficult time thinking of herself as a sexual predator, as she is now classified under Florida law.
"I was a kindhearted person who loved children, who would never, you know, do anything to break the law," she said. "I was a good person. And then, now everything has just changed. So it's just really hard for me to accept that."

| What's even more amazing is how smokin hot this chick was. That picture doesn't do her justice...when it was going on live last year we watched her on TV for a few days till the hype died down. |

It always is a bit strange to me.
First of all what does a 14 year old has to offer in that affair anyway?
Was there a partial consent on both sides ...
it never is cryutal clear, and children are not always innocent victims, but then again who knows.
But then again, in some countries people are allowed to shoot guns before they can have intercourse .... |

| during the four years at my high school there were two cases of teacher-student inappropriate contact. the first was a male biology teacher who took photos of his underage female students naked and had sex with several of them. small scandal. the second was a female Home Ec teacher who had an affair with a student at the school (though he was no longer her student, if that makes a difference, and he was 18, if that makes a difference), they ran off together and got married. huge scandal. |

Foreigners just have a difficult time understanding that Americans mature sexually at a younger age and at 14 are hot to trot. |

What I find disturbing is there seems to be a tendency for men to say things like "good for him (the student)! I'd have loved to tap something like that when I was a teen!" when the teacher/predator is an attractive woman.
When it's a male teacher/predator, however, those same guys all talk about how much they'd like to beat up or kill the predator.
Anyone else see this? |

She doesn't look good in every photo, but then, who does?
I believe we did this story about 6 months ago which went for pages on the moral implications of having sex with male minors as opposed to female minors. |

We did and I started that one too. It helped to remind me of why I don't hang out with too many foreigners here in Korea

That's a really weird way to write a quote in a news article.
For the record, the lady is not smokin hot at all. Fellow central Floridians will recognize her as a trailer park beauty queen straight away. |
