Hola good peeps... I was just chatting with a nice Korean lady in my new apartment in Sanbon who spoke of a place where foreigners often gather on Friday nights?
Anyone know the name and/or descriptions of a location? I heard it was across from a theater....
Would be good to know some decent waygoos in the area.... |

I haven't been, but a couple weeks ago, I was told that the Pirate Bar is where everyone hangs out. Stand with your back to the front door of Kentucky Fried Chicken. The bar is in the first building behind the bank, 2nd floor. There's a big sign in English, visible from the street. No first hand experience, but that's what I've heard from folks around here.

Pirate bar. Find the KFC, and it's somewhere within that radius... walk towards the main downtown area from KFC look up at the second floor. See ya there possibly!
Another bar is Bar 10. Just wander round the downtown (its so small you can't miss these places) and you will find em. |

Well, I went to King of Pirates tonight (Saturday around 11.30). Unfortunately, it turned out to be a sofa bar. Went over to No. 10. It was more of a resturant than a bar. I've yet to find a bar where you can go to hang out and meet new people.
It would be nice to find a bar with a pool table. I've only seen these in Itaewon and Songtan, both are near the US military bases. Its strange, English teachers far outnumber the military personal, yet the military personal seem far more effective in westernizing the local community with fast food chains, ethnic restuarants, and western bars.
These areas also seem to attract Koreans that are interested in meeting foreigners. |

In Anyang, I went to a bar called simply "Hip Hop." Wow, the setup of the place is made so you sort of "have to" talk with people. It's a mix between a pub (many people are sitting) and a club (many people are dancing in the place). There's no escape.. people will wanna talk with ya.
Met so many Koreans, and a few Waygooks. Wasn't impressed with the DJ that night though... but I'll cross my fingers and hope that since I went early, the good DJs weren't there yet.
So if you wanna meet people, it's very close to the Sanbon region. |
