If you are teaching English I suggest you go back to your trailer park and brush up on comprehension.

I second that.
Also:
There is no military need for the US to stay here. They can do everything from Japanese bases that they can do from here.

Besides the average joe on the street might want GI joe gone, but the Korean government sure doesn't seem want the US army gone. Everytime there is a discussion of a reduction of force you can here the panicky screams from the Blue House all the way to Busan. The US Army is the RoK's insurance policy against that nutbar up north, and I can't see the governmental powers to be wanting to give that up all that easily. This is of course along with the millions of US dollars pumped into the Korean economy every year.

Im looking at it from the American perspective. If they will give up operational control to Korea, this means they are not really concerned about the peninsula, hence no need for a trip wire. The trip wire only benefits South Korea.
They can still meet their objectives in Asia without any bases in Korea.

Someone said earlier there are 29,500 US soldiers here. Assume each one only spends $100 in Korea each month (though that number is most likely much higher). That's $3m USD a month.

Let me remind you that the Korean Government is also paying for the US forces(42% in 2004).

What good is 42% of a national defense? Does that mean North Korea will only kick 42% of their a$$. Only 42% of the citizens will die?

South Korea can use that 42% and defend themselves while the US takes their 58% and puts the money to better use.

I agree.

Without their presence, we could have more freedom to choose weapon systems from Russia and Europe at a better price and maybe develope on our own without constant restraint.

I agree completely on that last point. I would have no hesitations about sending the US soldiers home. About damned time the RoK did things on their own.
