Hi,
I've been offered a job in Mokpo and was hoping someone could shed some light on the area. I know its a small city which is fine (I live in Jeonju now), but thats all i know.
Any help appreciated.

I'd recommend Mokpo. It's a nice, small city but it still has most of the things Westerners will need in its two downtowns (old and new). It also appears to be on the up - a cheap pizza outlet opened near to where I lived just before I moved, which is a sign that it is growing.

Mokpo has been pretty good to my wife and I, we are just starting our 2nd year here. The foreign community has grown quite a bit, and most of them seem to be very friendly. Any more questions send me a PM.

Mokpo has the reputation as the gangster city of Korea. Get lots of tatoos and practice your Korean cursewords.

Mokpo is alright,

if you like being on the coast than you will like it. it really is a great start off point to explore the hundreds of islands that are located around the south western coast. I don't live there, I am halfway between mokpo and gwangju and I go to both for a variety of reasons. Mokpo has a few places that foriegners hang out, it has the necessities that you may want and gwangju 1.4 mil is only about 50 minutes away. another good thing about Mokpo is that its the end of the train line so train transport to anywhere north(seoul) is excellent, same can't be said for the east (pusan)

I would recommend Mokpo as a first contract in Korea.
