| Just curious, where is Dawson College? Is it near McGill? My brother teaches at McGill. |
It's about 2km west of McGill.
I went to school there and this incident has been troubling me for the last couple of days. The local reports go into great detail about where the shooter went and where he shot people, where he was finally ambushed by the local police and shot himself in the head.
I know all those places like the back of my hand and it's disturbing to imagine that kind of scene in a place where I remember tons of students just going about with their daily lives.
I attended 3 post-secondary institutions in Montreal. So far, 2 of them have been murder scenes, Concordia University and now Dawson College. That really sucks.
My heart goes out to the families of the victims. |

| I guess thats 20 less English teachers coming to Korea. |
This is inappropriate, sure, but it's also not funny and doesn't follow logically.
Hanson, I hope everyone is safe and out of harm's way. |
I wasnt trying to be funny. I was just commenting on the inordinate amount of Canadians who come to Korea to teach English. Something that has been touched upon countless times before.
If the incident in Montreal I used to express this saddens or depresses you, so be it.
One man's Columbine is another man's Jonesboro. |
Headline: shots fired, one dies.
You: I guess that's 20 less English teachers coming to Korea. |

So you have 20 shot Canadians. One dead. Others in critical condition. Undoubtedly emotionally traumatized. Yet the urge for the 19 shot, hurt, and traumatized Canadians to come to Korea and teach English is so strong that not even a near death experience will stop it.
If I was shot coming to Korea would probably not be on my to do list any time soon.
There must be a "Teach English in Korea gene" within Canadian DNA. Or its instinctual like salmon swimming upriver to spawn. |

Add total moron to the end of that, and possibly, we might have the trifecta..... |

Yes, because after recovering from being shot by a gun owned by a civilian the last thing anyone would want to do is move to a country where civilians aren't allowed to own guns.
Anything else you'd like to add to the list that you believe keeps people from coming to Korea to work? 19 people were shot but maybe each one of them has two friends that are too sad to come to Korea now, so maybe 57 Canadians? Then there's the guy that sprained his ankle while running out the door late for work yesterday, so that makes 58. Ah, plus his wife because she was stressed out from taking him to the clinic. She'll never get to Korea. 59 Canadians. Anything I've missed? The Canadian with the cranky dog that that bit its owner in the 90s? The Canadian with the odd facial tic? The one that was got beaten up by a few tough guys in grade 5? Up to 62 Canadians now? |

Thanks for the wellwishes, guys. My cousin is fine.
It's one of those events that happen from time to time that really hit home for me. The gunman comes from the same area I grew up in (Fabreville, Laval), pretty much a burb-ville where nothing exciting happens.
It seems the divide many Canadians promote between Canada and the US is not as great as those Canadians like to think. Guns and violent crimes are without borders in today's world. I wonder what steps will be taken by Dawson College, as well as other education institutions, as a result of this.
And as for beej, well, it takes a certain kind of character to make light of a true tragedy. I'll leave it at that. |
