Lots of people here have avatars (as you might have noticed Rolling Eyes ), some of them are amusing, some of them have nice/cool images, but seem very random and make me wonder why that person would choose to have that image in some way represent them as a person. So:

Why did you choose your avatar?

For me, obviously, I like Metallica. A lot. That's not the classic Metallica logo, but I also like the black and white contrast (cf earlier editions of Iain Banks's books), so there you are. Anyone else?

I've been a Tintin fan since I was a child. The books sparked my interest in traveling and seeing other parts of the world.

When I first lurked around on Dave's (before signing up) I read posts from a lot of foreigners in Korea who also sounded like terrible foreign nationals, revealing themselves to be people incapable of doing or acting better. It made me think of the two old white guys up in the balcony of the muppet show, heckling the act, but not participating. So mine is a kind of raspberry.

I'm not sure why I picked the picture with Gonzo. Maybe I'm Gonzo? I'll go discuss this with my psychotherapist.

I have an eating disorder but I like dolphins. It took a lot of searching before I found the avatar that best captures that which I show the outside world, as well as my inner beauty.
Don't you judge me!

My avatar has a few meanings : I love STAR TREK, I'm completely open minded about sexual personal choice, and it reflects my secret theory about Spock and Kirk's "friendship". Kirk's philandering was all a decoy you see Wink

Because it's exactly what my students apparently see when they look at me.
