I wonder if we are going to get a decent amount of Action out of Typhoon shanshan
Looking at the weatherunderground site it looks like the east coast could be hit with the tail end of a cat 1 typhoon.
I would post the picture but I am not sure how to sure how to.
here is the web address

If you are down in Busan or Ulsan from what I read on the JTWC site you may get SOME wind of maybe 30 mph and some rain but thats about it
according to the JTWC it will likely be an extropical system (a regular albeit strong low pressure system) and moving pretty fast when it gets up here. I wouldn't worry too much
Us in Seoul??? Maybe a few drops of rain, hopefully it will shift the winds around and get us some more dry air like we had last Sun and mon
The models keep shifting it further to the east but one model on weather underground had it way to the west and near us in Seoul in 48 hours, given where we are and this time of year I wouldn't hold my breath on that model the rest have it to the east and moving very fast |

Is it me or does Japan break the back of a lot of typhoons before they hit Korea? If there was no Japan, Korea would get it up the scuffer big time, no? Do them Koreans ever thank the Japanese for taking it for Team Asia time and time again? Ingrates, to the last. |

I believe it's more a combination of cooler waters and the jet stream. When I was in Japan two years ago almost every typhoon got to Kyushu and then got pushed east rather quickly by the jet stream. After 2 1/2 months I was getting pretty good at timing them. |

The typhoon rains have started now down here in the south-east.....there is a lot of rain coming, over 100 mm plus in the next 24-36 hours and will likely be a weak cat 2 or a strong cat 1
here is a good picture of an aggregate of all the predicted typhoon tacks from the korean meteological association...
According to this just us in the south-east will feel the wind but it could be 60-70mph and if it takes a bit more of a left turn it will be stronger still

This information is a little inaccurate as Korea gets more typhoons in september than any other month due to the monsoonal front lifting in August |

Definitely window-shaking going on here. And lots of rain.
But it's no Hurricane Juan. |

Everyone says it's you breaking their backs and then yelling, "Git yo' fat typhoon ass in da kitchen and make me a sammich!" And so on behalf of the entire country, I thank you.
We only got a few drops today in northern Seoul. Some typhoon. |

Is certainly very windy down on the water with gusts up to 80-100 km/hr down on the south coast with a bit of damage but if you come about 10 kilometres inland it is less noticably so...still the windows are a shaking here as well but looks like it is pretty much done by the morning...
There is actually another typhoon building up in the pacific called yagi so who knows....

Becka -
Do you mind my asking where you were when Hurricane Juan hit? It was quite a memorable moment in my mind, as hurricanes aren't very common at home. Mostly they get downgraded to weak tropical storms by the time they hit, so it was definitely quite an event! |
