|
|
I am starting this thread for those who are in or interested in Ansan city. I hope you post information that are useful and helpful for those in or coming to Ansan.
I have been here for almost 4 months.
Here are some of my experiences.
Ansan is a new city, mostly on flat ground.
Its a bicycle friendly city, with lots of bike lanes throughout. I bought one and went all over the city from Gongdan to Sangnoksu stations.
It has a Homeplus, Lottemart, GS Store, 2001 Outlet, Carrefour, and 2 Emarts.
I joined a good gym/jimjillbang in one at the Meganex in Jungang.
In Jungang commercial area, there will be 3 movie complexes (why?).
tons of shopping, eating, hofs.
There is an Outback Steakhouse, TGIF, several McDs, several Lotteria, KFC, Popeyes, Pizza Hut. Bennigans not sure. Several upperclass Japanese, Italian places as well as Vietnamese/Indian places near Ansan station I think.
Subway to Seoul Station: 1hour 10 mins/no transfers.
Subway to Anyang (Geumjeong): 20 mins.
Ansan Bus Terminal to Incheon Bus terminal: 30 mins
Bus to Gimpo Airport: 1:30 mins
Bus to Incheon Airport: 2 hours
Bus to Suwon: 30 mins
Bus to Jamsil, Seoul: 50 mins.
Some projects in the works in Ansan:
Big Baseball and Soccer stadium
New Suwon-Ansan-Incheon City subway line (when I dont know-years likely).
There are small climable hills in the area.
Architecture very uninteresting. Looks like any other city. Population over 500,000. Foreign teachers in the area about 100 or more. non teachers several hundred maybe mostly working in the industrial part.
There is an artifical waterwall near/behind Homeplus.
Considering this area has lots of industry to the West the Pollution isnt that bad here compared to what I read. Not that I noticed.
Overall Ansan is a good area to live and work.
Most Ansan foreigners go to Seoul for the weekend for the nightlife, as well as many people who live in satellite cities. Ansan has a good nightlife for Koreans, cuz Jungang seems very busy on the weekends.
If I could post pics I would, but I dont know how.
Anyways, hope this is helpful.
Anyone want to add? Like I want to know if there is an indoor pool/where? |

| yeah, don't work for ECC Ansan. Other than that, it's a perfectly nice city. You've found the walk/run/bike track around Kissamee-san, right? It's just behind the Ju-Gong apts in Song-po dong. Kwang-dok (behing the Han-Yang apts, across the Ansan channel) has a nice mountain with walking trails, etc. though not paved. |

| No, I long ago left Ansan. Greener pastures in Seoul. More pay, too. Stick it out for a year and move to Seoul. Teach adults for a year and then get yourself a nice uni job. 2 years seems to be all you need for cred at unis in Seoul. Maybe just 1 for a uni in Ansan or anywhere else in Korea. Good Luck - enjoy Ansan! |

The only good thing about living in Ansan is the MASSIVE Skatepark.
I hate the rest of it. |

| I've seen LotteMart and HomePlus from the subway. Are they easy to get to from one of the subway stops? They look like they're right between Jungang and Hanyang Univ. What's the best way to get there? |

I've been living in Ansan for 3 months and like it fine. I'm wondering if anyone knows about a language exchange group of something in the area. I go to a language cafe in Seoul on the weekends but looking for something closer in Ansan. Does Ansan College or Hanyang offering anything? Do ya know?
Thanks |

much needed info about the airport limos. thanx. how's about the schedules, if they have one) and also, stops?
been living in ansan for 'bout five months now and my take on the city is...'tis like any other satellite city, you get bits and pieces of most everything you get in big cities but not quite the real deal! went to this place called The Hang Out Bar a 'foreigner' bar, on a friend's recommendation. twas empty and even when it started to fill, was one korean after another! (off topic, just me dissin' about the night-life)
me and my friend, most every week-end find ourselves wishing Seoul wasn't so far away.
*i'm waiting for someone to organise a get-together. |
