I heard (a while ago), that Peter Jackson IS directing it. It had been in pre-production for a while. Pretty exciting, eh? I will admit-I am one of those LOTR enthusiasts, to the point that I love the stories and the films-I don't wear elf ears however!!
Anyone hear of this new ERAGON(or something to that effect) epic that is supposed to put LOTR to shame??

Peter Jackson is the "master". If he signs on again, it will be phenomenal.

I guess I'm the only person on the planet who wishes Peter Jackson had talked to someone who read The Lord of the Rings. I didn't hate what he did completely, but what I did hate I hated quite a lot.

Like, gutting the story of most of its nobility. The younger hobbits joining the expedition because they accidentally tumbled into the cart? Elrond as a mean control freak? Faramir as what amounted to an embittered carbon copy of his brother? Frodo believing for an instant that Sam had eaten the last of their food? I know, running time was an issue and Jackson needed some shortcuts, but all the ones he took sucked a$$. And not in the good way.

Visually these movies were splendid, but ... as a telling of the tale itself, they were just so-so.

In fact, I would say the orignal Rankin/Bass production outshone all three of the recent efforts, and by quite a bit. And it was animation.

Did you drop a lot of acid back in the day?

This is Joo-esque... Well below your usual participation level.

Ah.... Nice. The Rankin/Bass Hobbit came so much closer to the FEEL of the books. Sparklet ( Twisted Evil ), above, just doesn't get it.

TLOTRs was a fairy tale, an allegory and a cuationary tale all rolled in one. Thus, both obviously and not-so-obviously, it was a fantasy. But it was also a fantasy in the truest sense. The movies created by what's-his-name were faithful to the words, but not necessarily to the spirit of TLOTRs.

How old art thou, sparklet?
