I was at dinner last night, and it was brought up that I will have to pay Social Security 4 times to the US during the year that I am here. I plan on contacting the Social Security Administration about it, but does any one here have experience with this?
Also- any info/advice on doing tax returns while out here?

we (americans) only get taxed for anything over US$70,000 (or something like that) of income a year.

You still have to fill out your tax returns.. but essentially we don't end up paying anything into the U.S. tax system.

Regarding social security.. never heard of having to pay them separately. Thats interesting if there is anything more to that.

I have never paid into SS when in Korea, just picked back up where I had left off when I returned to the US. I have enough years there now to get disability payments, but paltry amounts at retirement. If even that will be available...

If you will not be working for a U.S. employer while in Korea, you will not be paying Social Security taxes.

Yes, you need 40 "credits" which equate to calendar quarters. 10 years of participation to qualify for benefits.
